I am not one to write a lot of reviews but felt this one to be necessary given questions raised in other reviews. This is a great product for specific applications. The reviews are correct, it requires 100% direct sunlight and really only charges in the peak sunlight hours. But in the right conditions, that is all you need. When we upgraded to a wired front door Ring, we moved the (trial) battery powered ring to a south-facing back door and added the Ring Solar Charger. We live in the Midwest, so sunlight in the winter months can be sketchy. But the few hours of charge most days (we get little to no charge on rainy/overcast days) has been more than enough to maintain a steady range, well within our comfort zone. I would note that we configure the back door settings for less frequent use, but we went from changing the battery every other week (at least!) to only before leaving for extended periods out of an abundance of caution. Zero complaints! Highly recommend in appropriate conditions. Update- I stand corrected. Currently seeing my Ring charging on a very overcast day (pics included). Still probably only charges during peak daylight hours but pleasantly surprised to see it charging.

I read the negative reviews before buying and decided that there were enough counterpoints to decide that the people having problems were having issues with what they have done, not with the charger. Like all solar panels, this is a trickle charger. It will generally only trickle power in slowly. However, having direct sun access is crucial because... well, its a solar panel. The sun tops the houses across the street from me early in the morning and climbs up above the edge of my roof above the door about four hours later. With that limited amount of direct sun, my Battery Doorbell Pro's battery will add about 20% charge per day thanks to this panel. Some Ring doorbells use 'optimized charging' where the cell is supposed to only charge up to a max of 80%. This 80% limit can be difficult to trigger for reasons beyond the scope of this review, but I found that on the BD Pro, if the cell is already fully charged prior to the solar charger's installation, the solar panel will do absolutely nothing until the battery gets down to about 70%. Only then will the solar charger start charging. When it does, it charges up to only 80% (stopping at 81%, actually). From there, with the sun I get, the solar charger will maintain between 70 and 80% battery charge indefinitely. I have the DBPro set to take snapshots every three minutes and do everything else that eats extra battery power. The direct sun access I get lets me do that. If your direct sun is less, you will have to adjust your settings to eat less power, or get used to the solar panel just extending battery life rather than making it never-ending. The exception to the above is the initial charge of the battery. When I installed my solar charger, I only had about a 38% charge on the battery. The solar charger added 20% per day until I was up to 100%... and then it seemingly did nothing for days until the battery slowly dipped down to 70%. Then it magically started up again into the cycle I describe above. Here again if you have limited sun access, you might not see this kind of clear result and it may look like the charger isn't doing anything.

Decent, solid mount. Only wish the solar cells were larger. I have no place to mount it where it gets 8+ hours of constant sunlight while still having a view of my door, so the Ring battery is still slowly draining. (Maybe 1% every two days)

UPDATE FROM PREVIOUS POST BELOW: I ended up making some changes to my door Ring and solar panel. It’s been a little over one week after a complete charge and making some minor changes, that my battery is at 95%. Without the solar panel it would have been much lower than this. Make sure you charge your Ring to 100%, make sure it’s plugged in all the way to the solar panel and that it’s in a good sunny spot and that you check and adjust your zones. After doing this for a second time around, I got a better response from the panel keeping the Ring camera charged. I needed to update this post seeing that others were having the same issue. FIRST INITIAL POST: The description of this product to me reads it is supposed to help charge or keep charge you door Ring camera. I have it in a place where there is ample sun hitting it and yet it still shows it’s not connected in the app. Yes it is connected correctly. Yes I made sure I adjusted the area sensitivity so it does not detect constantly, although I shouldn’t have to do that with the way this product is explained to work. Complete waste of money. I am extremely disappointed spending $44 plus on something that my Ring app kept suggesting I get to help it stay charged!

I thought the thing was not working. It is. Turns out the weather will negatively effect the lithium ion battery. Cutomer services, is amazing. Thank you Amilia, I very much appreciate your time working with me and explaining the issue.

I have been owning this solar charger for about 2 months now. So far so good. I have yet to change my battery yet. And before I installed this it felt like I was changing my battery every 1-2 weeks. I have no complaints so far and the installation was super simple. As I type this, my battery is at 81%. The lowest it got was about 61% and that was because it was very cloudy for a couple days straight. As long you put this solar battery charger where sun can hit it for at least a couple hrs a day you should be fine. I highly recommend this product. Such a life savor so far. It almost feels as though it’s hardwired because I haven’t had to change the battery yet.

I was worried the solar charger wouldn't work on our covered porch where never gets direct sunlight. It works perfectly fine! We only really see significant battery depletion when the temperature is in the minus 10's Celsius, but the Ring device itself works very finicky in those temperatures in general. It's been about a month since I last charged the device and it's currently at 83% while we've had lower than 10°C the entire time. I'm more than satisfied with this solar charger.

This was brought as a gift. The recipient was very pleased. It works well and appears to be of good quality. I’d say it was good value. It was easy to set up. I will be buying again this time for myself.
