I love this tape. But I ordered 5 rolls in April of 2023. I used 3rolls without any issues. I went to use the last 2 rolls and found it was very hard to pull off roll and had a sticky residue throughout the roll. I ordered 3 new rolls hoping not to have that issue again.

I had an old automatic 35mm camera that I loved using as a kid that apparently cost my parents a pretty penny back in the 80s. I had dropped it at one point and broke the clip that holds the film door closed on the back of the camera. This clip also engaged the locking mechanism that loaded the film and indicated to the camera when the cartridge was removed to clear then"exposed" indicator from the screen on the camera. I did buy a replacement camera once upon a time at a yard sale, but I just had such fond memories of this camera, and was familiar with the kinds of pictures it took that I wanted to get it going again if possible. I was able to see that manually moving the door latch switch to the closed position would keep it there, and the camera would go through the film loading process, and I could see that the camera was still able to auto focus and the shutter was functioning normally. My only issue was how to keep the door of the camera closed once I had film loaded. The last thing I wanted was to have a situation where whatever tape I used would lose its stick and the door would pop open exposing the film in the camera. I considered electrical tape first but in my experience, it doesn't stand up to constant handling and the adhesive melts from body heat making a mess everywhere. Not only would this most likely cause the tape to fail and the door to open, it would probably leave the camera a sticky mess. Then I thought about duct tape. We all know the saying, if it doesn't move and it should, WD-40, if it moves and it shouldn't, Duct Tape. But I've had similar issues with the adhesive on duct tape failing after some time, and it definitely leaves behind residue. My biggest reasoning for worrying about residue is that if I wanted to use this camera more than one or two times, I'd need the surface of the camera to remain pretty free of residue so tape can continue sticking to the surface each time I load a roll of film. Then I had the realization of Gaff tape. No residue, great stick. But then I saw the prices of Gaff tape which was crazy out of my budget. For the prices I saw, it may have been better to just deal with removing the residue from something like duct tape and hope to not have any tape failures while film was loaded. Then I came across this Gaff tape. I saw some very mixed reviews about it and saw some people mention a possible formulation change in the adhesive through the years. But at the price for the roll, and knowing I won't be using very much at a time, I decided to go for it and to just do a dry run first before putting any film in the camera. This tape worked perfectly as I'd hoped. In my dry run I made sure to wear the camera around my neck so it got bumped around throughout the day. I put it in and out of my bag. I made sure to hold the camera and mess around with it. The adhesive never melted or gave out. I had it on for about 3 or so days before deciding to pull it off and go live with actual film and not a single bit of residue was left behind on the body of the camera. For context it is made out of plastic and there is texture on some parts where the tape was placed. This even ends up covering the tripod mounting hole that I don't use anyway and the tape never lifted. I can't necessarily speak to this being used in the field for Gaffing purposes but I can say without a doubt that this tape delivered exactly as I'd hoped and I'm beyond happy with my purchase. I've shot 2 rolls of film in this camera with no issues, and I even dropped it once while it was taped and the tape didn't give way. When I run out I will definitely be purchasing this again.

I've used a lot of different gaffers tape and I really like this one. Gaffers tape largely differs from duct tape as the adhesive is suposed to come off with the tape and not leave too much if any residue on the taped subject. But they also have to stick. Duct tape is just a mess when you remove it. Some gaffers tapes have too much adhesive which makes it hard to work with or remove. Some have too little so don't do a good job of keeping things in place. I like this tape because, for the limited amount of times I've used it, has the right balance of adhesion and removal ability. I haven't had the tape on anything long term so I cannot comment on how the adhesive will stay pliable and moist over time or how quickly it may dry out as they often do if left for years. I'd say this tape, while not cheap, compared to others is a pretty good value.

Gaffer tape is supposed to be a high tack, low residue tape. Amazon got the first part right. This stuff is really sticky. Wikipedia says of Gaffer tape: "The synthetic adhesive typically leaves little or no residue and will generally not damage most surfaces when it is removed." This stuff leaves a trail of black goo wherever it has been even if it has only been there briefly. It even goos itself to a shelf if the roll is laid flat. This tape should only be ordered along with an 8 oz or larger bottle of Goo Gone. UPDATE I needed to reseal an Amazon plastic envelope and this tape was the handiest. It took a long time and a lot of effort to get the required length of tape off the roll and by then I was covered with the adhesive that was supposed to be on the sticky side of the tape. And the envelope will likely stick to anything it comes near since the top, supposedly non sticky side of the tape is sticky with adhesive stuck to it from the previous layer of tape. I grabbed a roll of paper towels to clean up and the paper towel stuck to the adhesive on my fingers. I grabbed the bottle of Goo Gone and stuck to it. Once I got the Goo Gone opened I was able to unstick myself from the paper towel and after liberal applications of Goo Gone and a lot of rubbing I managed to get the adhesive out of my fingerprints. Then I had to use more Goo Gone to clean the adhesive off of the Goo Gone bottle. I need to throw this tape out and go buy a roll of legitimate gaffer tape.

I love gaffers tape. It sticks well and doesn't leave a residue (maybe after a few months it might leave some of the adhesive behind, but not dried out so still sticky). Very dull, so it doesn't reflect light. For it's intended use this is great so the audience won't see it, and it won't show up well on film. It's also good when you just want something that isn't bright or reflective. I am using it to hold down the mouse and keyboard cables to my computer desk, to bundle the charging cables for the phones at work, as well as multiple mouse and keyboard charging cables at each station. It's good for holding loose strap ends on adjustable straps that you won't be adjusting much, and even for the ends on tie downs in the back of a truck or the roof rack so they aren't flapping around while driving. It holds up to the heat inside a car when the temps hit the 90s F, as I've taped down some wiring for add on lights in my car, such as an added cargo area light in my Forester. It keeps that cord out of the way and secure.

You never know when you're going to need this. It's great tape because there's no residue on carpet.

This brand of Gaffer's tape has good adhesion and tears precisely, and it is uniform as you pull it off the spool.

This tape is super tough, super adherent, and solid. Only issue might be leaving residue.

A friend suggested this to improve the acoustics of my keyboard switches (put it inside the switch, so the tape cushions the plastic) and it works great. It also helped with the acoustics of the keyboard. While using it, I saw how clean and easy it was to remove the tape. I just started using it for everything that I knew I would have to removed it eventually. It keeps PCB in place while I was soldering, some cables together for organization, etc Do not use for hot stuff, like inside a laptop, there are tapes proper for that.

First package came empty, the tape apparently escaped through the side of the bag. Second time was a charm. Full blackout tape. Sticks well, so well that small pieces stick. No residue that I’ve noticed. I use this tape for many things, but most recently I’ve used it to cover LEDs, it’s complete blackout. If you love yourself, but this for the sole purpose of blacking out every LED that haunts you. Please excuse my filthy power tap, a coffee maker loves beside it.
