I was using an 8" Fire tablet - it also worked well. My upgrade to this 10.1" tablet was a good choice. I got it on sale, and it was well worth the difference. The larger screen brings a better viewing experience I really appreciate the fact that it supports SD cards Tip: although I had no problem using an SD card that I transferred video, audio, and other stuff onto from my computer, apparently some people DID have trouble. This tablet can format a card so that it can be used to transfer files. Using this tablet, I can get the streaming services to which I subscribe - and I can take them with me as long as I have access to WiFi. I watch videos from the SD card almost daily. This ISN'T an iPad -- the screen may not be as sharp as Apple's much more expensive tablet -- but for my purposes, it works well. I don't use my Fire tablet for browsing the Internet - theoretically, I can. Although I haven't attached a bluetooth keyboard or Bluetooth mouse, I can conceivably use this tablet for browsing. Applications come from Amazon's app store, so the number of apps may be lower than Google's app store (there are ways to enable the tablet to use Google Store apps - I haven't tried this, and won't explain how this is done). The model I got was ad based. When you start the tablet, you'll see an ad - often for a 'game' that will end up costing money to play. So far, this hasn't bothered me enough to fork over the $15 (or so) that Amazon charges to disable the ads. This tablet has less memory than my old 8" Fire Pro - but so far, this hasn't been a bit of a problem. I haven't tried recording downloads onto my SD card, although I think this is supported. For the price and convenience, I'm quite pleased with this device.

I have wanted to get a tablet for a long time, and I'm glad I did. This one works great and so far it does everything I want it to do. The touch screen is responsive and it is easy to connect to my home WiFi. It is easy to charge with the provided wire and wall adapter, and so far the battery is holding a charge for quite a long time. I have been able to use the app store to download apps, I have read books using Kindle and Libby, and I have also used it for basic activities such as games and surfing the internet. The screen is clear and graphics and photos look great. In fact, I'm writing this review with it and using the vocal dictation feature now. I have not used it yet to take pictures. I definitely recommend getting a good Protective case and Screen protector For this tablet, because it is thin, sleek, and somewhat slippery. It might not be the fanciest one on the market, but I am very happy with it so far so far, especially for the price.

I got back into reading fiction during the covid shutdown because I wanted to read the Outlander books that the tv show is based on. The libraries were closed so I discovered the library's Libby app and Kindle app for reading books on my ipad (better late than never ;-). Two years ago I bought a Kindle Paperwhite so I could read outdoors in sunlight, but the Kindle's user interface is harder to use than the Kindle App on ipads. I need to enlarge the font a bit (baby boomer eyes) so with the small screen on the Kindle Paperwhite, I'm having to tap for the next page frequently. I decided to try the Fire HD 10 when it was on sale in November (I bought the version with 64 GB) for reading on occasion. I find it MUCH easier to read using the kindle app on the Fire HD 10 (and ipads) than reading using the Kindle Paperwhite. The Kindle app is much more user friendly than the Kindle Paperwhite, the screen is bigger of course so with my enlarged the font the Fire HD gives me more words on the page. The Kindle Paperwhite is much better if you want to read outdoors in bright sunlight due to the reader screen technology, but for reading indoors I liked the Fire HD better. For surfing the Internet, I find the Fire HD 10 definitely slower than my ipads. Installing an app on the Fire HD is slower, and of course there are more apps on my ipad. The Fire HD can't compare to an ipad, but then an ipad costs 4-5 times the cost of the Fire HD. For the cost, the Fire HD is a nice little tablet! My cell phone company had a Black Friday week special offer and I ended up getting a new free ipad as part of an upgrade deal. So I gave the Fire HD 10 to my brother. He loves it! He's installed several apps that he uses on his Pixel phone and was happily surprised that these apps were available in the Amazon Fire HD app store. My brother's phone is old and very slow, so the Fire HD 10 does everything faster than his phone plus the screen is bigger. He can surf the Internet, watch movies, etc. If you are used to using an ipad, you may not be happy with this tablet. I had bought it as a spare to read in the bathroom but I usually read books in the Kindle app on my ipad pro. For someone who can't afford an ipad, this is a great deal! Also great for a child to use as it's inexpensive in case it gets broken or lost. I give it 5 stars! What it does, it does very well.

Edit-im returning 12 hrs later, same issues happening again. I'm VERY DISAPPOINTED Edit - Customer service responded quickly to my review. They were very helpful. Updating didn't work, but once I reset back to factory, and started over, it seems that everything is working ok. I am feeling like the issue was from the Ads that came with the tablet. It is work the few extra dollars to get it without ads that is for sure. This is my 3rd Fire tablet, so I am happy the issues have been resolved. Anyone having issues with the keyboard popping up every 2-5 seconds on this tablet? I have seen where they are having issues with this, and not a fix yet from December. If there is a fix, I would like to know before I wipe and send it back. This is very annoying as you cannot do ANYTHING on this with the screen popping every few seconds.
