I own the Arlo Essential HD XL Camera (Generation 1) and the Arlo Essential 2K camera (Generation 2). The 2K camera is much smaller and lighter than the HD XL camera because it has fewer internal batteries. Truth be told, I see virtually no difference in video quality on my cell phone between the two cameras. Also, the larger, heavier HD XL camera included a swivel mount in the box. The smaller, lighter 2K camera came with a cheap fixed location mount that does not swivel. It's worthless if you want to adjust camera position. So I had to buy a swivel mount for the 2K camera. For my money, I prefer the less expensive, older Generation 1 HD XL cameras. It is more than adaquate for do it yourself home security systems. Update I eventually returned the Essential 2K (2nd Generation) camera. I had problems with the screen going pink and it eventually stopped responding to change requests in the Arlo phone app. I replaced it with a 2nd Generation Essential HD camera and had the similar problems. I think there are still some bugs to be worked out in the Essential 2nd generation cameras. But once these problems are resolved the Essential 2nd Generation cameras will be my go to. I have had ZERO problems with the older Gen1 Essential HD XL camera. By the way, I bought these Gen 1 Essential HD XL cameras refurbished from Amazom. Some reviewers claim their refurbished HD XL cameras batteries ran out of powere after a few weeks. My original HD XL has been running for a month and the battery is at 97%. My two week old HD XL is at 98%. Guess those guys forgot to charge their cameras. Again, I have had ZERO problems with my refurbished Generation 1 Essential HD XL cameras.

I first purchased Simply Safe. I wanted to like it, but it was one problem after another. I could not ever make anything work, and the worst part was the cameras. I finally gave up and decided to give Arlo a try. Basically, it is a third of the price of an outdoor simply safe camera. What a difference! These cameras connect directly to the internet. The batteries seem to last forever, which was a big problem with the Simply Safe batteries. They don't miss a beat. Every move is recorded, and you get a notification on your phone. The app is decent, and the best part is that it works. The great advantage of having a camera-only system is that you don't need a base, which can be a big problem because of their poor reach. The connection never fails when connected to the internet, provided you have a half-decent modem. After all, I find it silly to put all your attention on the window and door sensors. The camera takes care of everything. Not only that, but each camera has an alarm you can enable from your phone that sets the alarm on all the cameras, indoors or outdoors. You can customize what each camera detects or reacts to in three different sets. Very clever, simple, and reliable. I recommend this product.

Ordered these cameras from Amazon and two sets of solar panels to keep them charged. When looking at them on their sight my biggest concern was that the battery was removable and the same as the battery in my existing Arlo cameras. Amazons ad showed the cameras being removed, so I ordered them along with the solar panels. Upon receipt of this product I quickly realized the batteries were not removable and the solar panels did not work with this particular style of Arlo cameras. That same day I repackaged them in the same box they were all shipped in and returned them them via the UPS store. Because several different items with several different bar or QRC codes were in the same box as they were shipped to me the person at the UPS store insisted on taking them all out. She applied the QRC code to the respective items and the cameras were in two boxes one with one camera and one with 4 cameras. She put both of those boxes in to the original box that they had been shipped in and applied the bar code to that box. Within hours I received credit for the items ( brackets and solar Panels) that the QRC code was applied and a few days later received a credit for the one camera that came in its (Arlo) box by itself. I did not receive a credit for the other four cameras that were in their original (Arlo) box. I contacted Amazon and they show the order/return was still pending. This was weeks ago and I still see that it is still pending. I’m beginning to think that this item may have been taken from the original Amazon box that both (Arlo) boxes were in and stolen somewhere down the line or it was misplaced by return employees and not processed properly. All I know is I returned 4 cameras and never got reimbursed for them and it has been too long. I have witnesses as to what transpired at the UPS store when they left my hands and have the UPS receipt. I don’t know what transpired after that but I have my suspicions. A little help from Amazon would be appreciated. I’m tired of waiting.

Purchased to keep a watch on our families vacation place. I would say everything is great about this camera!!! The only thing I can see that doesn't stand up to the specs is the battery life. We are 3 to 4 hours from the camera so charging needs to be at a minimum. We have had installed since beginning of October and my battery life is at 54%. Specs say it can last a year. Probably so if you do not have a lot of activity. We have a least 4 to 6 triggers a day, except when storms run through. I did find if you turn of the night vision you do save more battery life. Would I purchase again, YOU BET. The security through my Arlo system is awesome!
