These definitely do qhat they are supposed to! I love that I can start the seeds and plant directly into the ground and not worry about what stuff might be "added" in.

These are perfect for plants with delicate roots and take up less space than seed starting in those larger biodegradable pots. This was my first time seeing biodegradable plant trays and I think I might just use these every year, depending on how well it breaks down in the ground. This is my first time with this brand so I will see how the pots end up at the end of the season. Right now, I have a few tomato, pepper, okra, and various flower seedlings. I scored the sides of these trays prior to doing so just in case. In my experience with another brand, these just need to be kept *very* moist in order to let the roots go out freely, but I don't want to take any chances. Scoring does make the trays a bit more fragile to handle when wet, but I also packed the seed starter as much as I could. I'll likely place the vegetables in larger pots when needed, but the flowers I will likely just put in the ground directly. I have high hopes for my okra as I've grown it for well over five years and the crop was always stunted until last year, my second year using biodegradable pots.

I really love the back to the roots products, this one was a miss unfortunately! I have the whole kit, my first set of plants died after transfer, figured it was a cold burst that shocked them. When I dug up my old dead plants, it was because the cell molded, and molded the surrounding soil. I would suggest taking them out of the cells when transfering, at least that was my experience :)

These trays are good for starting plants from seeds or use with cuttings rooted in water. They are big enough for a small root ball, and not so big they take a lot of dirt to fill. When wet, they are somewhat fragile, but any pot or tray of this construction will be fragile. They can be planted directly in the soil when seeds have sprouted or the plant is getting larger, without disturbing the root ball, which means less stress for the plant.

I currently am using this to sprout tomato and eggplant seeds in my greenhouse. I like this product, and I knew I was ordering it as a refill to a larger set, so I have a few notes if you haven't ordered things like this before. A couple things to know about this product: - This is technically a refill pack for a separate grow kit set and that means the instructions assume you have the tray + cover. If you don't have one, I recommend it because you'll get a lot of water leakage without one) - These are pretty small! You'll notice these are not as wide or deep as some of the ones you might see in the stores - You will need to find some kind of tray to put underneath these and pay attention when watering. I found that these get overwatered quickly and dry out pretty fast. - General reminder that you wouldn't use something like this for items that are best sowed in the ground (like carrots) I loved the feel of these, and they are compostable. The feel is a paper mache texture and they are around a thumb deep. This is a low-packaging product (mine didn't come in plastic, which I appreciated!).

I absolutely love the back to the roots brand and been using them for quite some time. I love their mushroom grow kits and have grown several over the past few years on my windowsill in my bedroom. Having very limited apartment space, urban windowsill gardening is my only option. I absolutely love these grow kits seed starting trays. Very easy to use, simply fill with your growing medium, plant your seed and keep them misted until they sprout. Biodegradable so you can just break them apart and plant directly into the ground when it’s warm enough outside. Affordably priced at just $7.99, will definitely purchase more in the future.
