Play Video I went from a Broan 250 to this 400 and it’s a world of difference. This unit has a squirrel cage fan as opposed to a normal fan and you can tell the difference. Installing it took some modifications inside my cabinet. I paid $100 for a carpenter to come put it in because it would have taken me two days and 32 trips to Lowe’s. He installed it in a couple hours. Lights are super bright. 1st and 2nd speeds are quite. Third speed is loudish but it works great. I have no regrets buying it.

I am happy with this fan. Uses two 40W candelabra bulbs. Light has only On or Off setting. I wish the lights were brighter or maybe it's that they are not a focused beam, or maybe the unit sits higher than my old under-cabinet unit. The lights seem to be situated more to the back of the stove than they would be with an under-cabinet unit. Fan has 3 settings. Low is pretty quiet, high is somewhat noisy but not bad. The controls are sliders. The fan has 3 distinct settings: low, medium, and high. This unit plugs in; it is not designed to be hard-wired. I bought this to go with the Broan LB30 30-Inch Hood Liner. I bought an older home that had an empty-inside wood hood (no over stove cabinet) and thought the liner would slip right in there, we pop the fan in, and that's it. I downloaded all the instructions, spec sheets, etc., I could find online ahead of time. The instructions (both from the web and from the box) when utilizing the liner are confusing. My contractor had to call the 800# for advice and that person told him that the liner is not designed to hold up the fan. He said you have to either have a cabinet or build a box. In effect, the liner is just to cover up the wood, protect it, and give a stream-lined look. After some discussion we decided to just use the liner to hold up the fan and it seems very solid. The liner installs with the opening pointing down (concave), so the bottom of the fan unit ends up 4" above the bottom of the hood and is hidden. I posted some photos. It's slightly awkward reaching under and/or looking under to locate and move the switches which are on the bottom of the fan unit. I'm sure it will become automatic with use. For my situation, this unit combined with the liner were perfect. The finished project looks very professional and was way less costly than a custom hood. It was not possible to find a matching cabinet in order to install a ready-made under-cabinet fan unit. The cost for this fan unit, the liner, and labor was less than or equal to what it would have cost for an off-the-shelf fan unit, non-matching over-stove cabinet, and labor.

I found this replacement for an old Nu-Tone exhaust insert. The old unit had a smaller cut-out in the cabinet, so I used a jig saw to cut a larger opening. That takes a little carpentry skill, but wasn't too hard. Next, the new unit has little wings that allow you to push the blower assembly up through the bottom of the cabinet and "snap" in place. Then you add four screws to finalize the installation. Next came the re-ducting of the exhaust. This was the most difficult part, as the old duct was not the same size as the blower exhaust port. I used tin snips to cut relief slits around the perimeter of the duct, then bent things until the parts mated together. You will need a roll of aluminum tape to seal everything. The new unit has great LED lights and the blower is very efficient. The low speed is rather quiet but the high speed makes a good bit of sound. We are very pleased with the overall look and use of this range hood insert.

Easy to install . Does a fair job to suction out steam while cooking. The lighting is good. It’s worked fine for us, since we don’t cook a lot. A Great price!

I got a china version first and then got this hood as it was a little bigger and had rotary controls. The china hood felt kinda cheap but was acceptable until I got this one and realized the nice build quality and that the china hood lacked any thermal cutoff protection that I could see. This one is a hundred bucks more and I feel money well spent, fit and finish is nice, components look like they will last many years etc... Actually looks engineered in comparison. The china one is ok for the money if it's easy to r&r. Update... Hood installed for a couple months now, unconventional install in a custom built chimney. This fan performs fantastic! It pulls much stronger than seems it should. Not ideally centered over the gas range and a bit high, but no problem and when cooking and on high it will suck the flame out from under a pot on the front burner! So low or med speeds while cooking and very quiet. High can be used if someone farts in the kitchen and guests are about to arrive. Highly satisfied

Finally got around to installing this insert in an existing hood. Install went quick and easy, have been enjoying for several months. Lights are bright, fan is strong. High-fan is loud but it moves some air, great for when you burn something. Low-fan is perfect for normal cooking. Moving just enough air to pull smoke, steam, fumes up and out but quiet enough to enjoy a conversation while you cook. If I had the need, I would buy again.

Exactly as stated. It also arrived earlier than stated and came much quicker than stores had offered. Hood itself was not difficult to install as it has two clips to hold it in place while you are attaching it. Only difficulty was with the pipe due to it's location plus the fact that the previous one was 4 inches and this was is 6 inches. Overall a good fan for the price and quieter than our previous one.

Draws very well with variable speeds, a bit loud like most of them I owned.
