I like it well or medium well, he likes it rare, medium rare - we managed to cook our steaks to our liking using this device. It is an absolutely amazing device that guides you thru the cooking process. It even tells you when to turn the meat while it’s cooking. Our steaks were perfectly cooked and both steaks were hot on our plates (it’s all about time management, but this devices accuracy makes a huge impact in achieving a perfectly cooked protein.

OK, my opinion, this is a great device. Let me start with the capability of connecting by either blue tooth, OR the internet. Yep, that's right, in case you missed it, this device connects via the internet, which can give you much more roaming freedom in your home. The pairing and net connection set-up was quick and painless. Item comes in a nice solid, good looking case. I checked temperature variation immediately, by placing this item and two different portable units into a glass of water. All were with 1-2 degrees of each other, with this unit being in the middle, one degree different from the other two. I can live with that!! One thing they do get cheap on, helping you charge the unit. This item takes a type 'C' USB cable, to plug into a USB socket. They give you no wall device, OR a charging cable. From headphones to cellphones, I have plenty of type 'C' cables, so it was no big deal. On charging, another item, the blitzy item description states up to 40 hrs. of usage possible. When you look at the manual, it states that fully charged, it may get up to 15 hr.'s of cooking time. That is a BIG drop down from 40 hr.'s, but is still plenty of cooking time. BTW, when you plug it into charge, a green light will start blinking on the base. You need to charge the unit until the green light turns solid, keeping the tool installed in the base. The manual estimates full charge time at 3 hours. As like with a lot of stuff that has batteries, be aware that you most likely will need to charge the unit if their is a good while between usages, or even if you use it a lot. Batteries always run down, in everything. It is a normal happening. Overall, I am happy with the item, and yes, I would recommend it at this time, prior to actually cooking with it. If the story changes after my first cooking session, I will update this posting. UPDATE: Remembering that I had a 2nd oven, I ordered the three probe set also. Now I have a 1 probe set, and a 3 probe set, so that if I am cooking meat in both ovens, I have temperature control. First thing I did with the 3 probe set was to test their reading capability. As I did with the first probe set that I previously purchased, I put all three probes into a glass of water. Two probes had the same temperature, and 1 probe was a degree lower. That works! COMMENTARY: Noticed a few reviews where folks stated that they could not register the probes. As a 'just in case', thought I would mention something. When the unit first arrives, the probes are inside of the case, resting in plastic sheaths. These sheaths prevent the probes from making contact with the metal contact plates in the unit. No contact equals the probes do not charge, and neither can the main unit 'see' them. So when you are charging/registering, made sure you get rid of that plastic sheathing that the probes are resting in. Just pull probes out and remove the loose plastic sheathing. TESTING: If you are not going to use for a while, or if you are giving as a gift, later on, test, test, test. There is just one piece of tape that you have to cut to open the box do it. Save yourself some potential grief if you find out the unit is defective, after the return period has expired. Charge the unit fully. This will test if all items are recharging. Put probe(s) into glass of water and let sit for a good while (hours) measuring temperature. You want to see if the probe(s) are registering the temperature over time and that the temperature is being picked up by the app. You could also lay the probe(s) in a pan covered with parchment paper (to keep probe(s) from touching pan), in the oven for a while, to test heat readings.

1. Amazing tech, works well and accurate. Used it to cook new york strips medium and it worked perfectly. From the step by step with video on operating to it alerting me to flip and when to remove from grill / place in oven to rest. Also did potatoes baked and it says 208° it’s gonna reach that temperature. Everything came out great steak juicy and delicious with baked potato soft and fluffy. 2. Cleanup with an ease, literally wash sanitizer and air dry, waterproof for sure. But I wouldn’t submerge them. 3. Use of app was outstanding, it’s readable and very well designed. Provided timer helps estimate the speed, cooking potential depends upon the person however this is an amazing addition to my cooking experience and kitchen. 4. Plan to buy more if you host large meals and everyone has different steak temperatures, large vegetables or other mix and match meal ideas the operation of them and precise timing allows for everyone to join in cooking. 5. Great gift for the home chef cook pitmaster or grilled

I looked forward to using this high tech, state of the art wireless thermometer by Chef IQ. It came in a huge package and offered all the features I was looking for. It is both WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity that worked flawlessly in my experience. The thermometer is rated IP67, dual temperature sensors and has a fancy base with voice announcement features with space for 2 additional probes. The android app comes with recipe guides helping you along and flexible enough to use your own special cooking style if you chose to do so. The main app screen is busy with junk that does not add value but others may find it useful... not. In my first use, I ran a parallel type setup with 3 probes. Even though everything about this Chef IQ thermometer is slick, I needed to make sure that the temperatures that it was spitting out was valid. In the beginning, all 3 thermometers were within 2° F of each other. Ambient temperature was off by 30-35° F compare with a separate oven thermometer on rack. As the temperature rose on my roast, there was a growing gap when approaching 100 deg F where the Chef IQ reported 4-5° F value lower than my other probes. At 120°F, this probe reported 8 to 10° F lower that the other probes with the app recommending additional cooking time. I decide to go with the other probes temperature reports and pull out my roast. Using a Thermopen thermometer (NIST calibrated 11/2022), the actual temperature was off on my other probes by 5° F and the Chef IQ was off by as much as 15° F. If I were to follow the Chef IQ app blindly, the roast would be well overcooked. Everything about this Chef IQ temperature screams quality but without reporting accurate temperatures, it has no value in my kitchen. I am not a professional chef so I need all the help I can get. If by chance, this probe was defective then the company lacks the quality controls needed to provide the end consumer a quality product. I thought I was the only one to suffer the grossly inaccurate temperature readings but alas I am not. You can take your chances with all the flashing bling bling lights with promises of glory but remember that the Amazon return window is only 30 days. This Chef IQ Smart Temperature Probe is a piece of junk. Not recommended. Update - Silly me. I really wanted this probe to work so i ordered a replacement unit. Same accuracy issues, however, this time, the temperatures were reported on the high side. I filed a support ticket but the Chef IQ customer support ended up being a waste of time. They failed to provide any solutions. They actually disappeared and never responded after asking all kinds of questions. I'm now 100% convinced this product is flawed. 2 out of 2 is a failure rate of 100%. You may want to check your own thermometers with a simple ice water bath. Your internal probe should be around 32°F. Or a boiling water test where your temps should report close to 212°F depending on altitude. Update 2 - Jan 2023 Geez... I must be a glutton for punishment. Over half a dozen emails encompassing well over a week with the Chef IQ customer service group, a few different reps, they are unable to resolve this issue and will refer it to another tech. Despite informing them of the simple ice water testing where 2 other probes reporting 32° F and the Chef IQ reporting 39° F, they are questioning the validity of the test... Huh? They did inform me that the ambient temperature reporting is working normally when reporting the 35° F difference compare to the separate oven temperature gauge... What? The Chef IQ customer service group is really bad and I hope nobody else will ever have to experience this type of support. Final advice... Please check the accuracy of your probes if you decide to buy this product. Good luck!
