While headed on a multi-family camping trip (site has electrical outlets), this was purchased to let us more easily boil water between firepit fires. My only caution to other potential buyers is that the body of the burner gets pretty hot. I felt it was possibly too hot to set this on the picknick table, and definitely too hot to place it on a tablecloth. I ended up using 2 silicone hot pads under it. As long as people are aware of that, it seems to work great and is a good price.

I like that this has the ceramic plate, it's easier to clean and looks nicer. This heats up well enough to fry eggs and boil water. Some of these reviews talked about how long it takes to boil water, I didn't time it, but it seemed reasonable when I was making Mac n cheese and our hotel room. Perhaps the key is to boil water with the lid on? I took the advice of other reviewers and turned it on outside to burn off the manufacturing residue. Even after doing that the first time I use it at full power inside I could smell a little bit, not too bad, though. The one thing I don't like about this unit is how hot the housing and surrounding area gets. It's almost too hot to touch in case you want to move it after you turn it off, and be very careful of the silver bolt that pokes through to the bottom, even after the housing is cool enough to pick up, that bolt was shockingly hot and I dropped the burner under the counter. It's a nice, inexpensive little burner, perfect for travel or a temporary life situation. Just respect the cooldown time, and maybe even cook on top of a heat safe cutting board, and this little guy should serve you well.

If you use a larger pan, the heat doesn't get to the outsides enough so you have to constantly move the food around to be cooked evenly

Bought this hot plate for my outside kitchen when we go camping. It works great and is built very well. You have to be careful because it gets hot very quick. Love it no issues.

Serves its purpose, takes a while to heat up and boiling water takes longer than normal but it did the job while we renovated.

I purchased it to do fondue. I don't like using the fluid. It heats well and it's quit compact. If you have a camper or rent a room it would be ideal. Quality price is good.

We have been using this item for 6 weeks when it just stopped heating up. The red light remains on so it is not the fuse that has blown. At the moment, I don't seem to be able to contact the seller for a replacement or a refund as this item is not fit for purpose. I will update if I am able to resolve this issue.
