First off let me say this: all the reviews stating difficulties setting up were telling the TRUTH!!! By the time I was in touch with a live person, the machine miraculously connected. REALLY?!?!?!! Since I had them on the line, I had THEM walk me through finishing the setup (and he was just as clueless as I was). I finally got the printer heads in and I was good to go. I LOVE the fact that it has larger, separate ink tanks which should help with saving money on ink. CONS: Top loading paper tray; No sd card slots; Prints slower; Other than that, the quality of the printer is great. The larger ink tanks are awesome, although the bottles of cyan, magenta and yellow are half the size of the black ink bottle. I would've thought it would be equal amounts of ink bottles for all colors. The price is great and you have a choice of warranties to purchase as well as insurance. I purchased this printer to print photos onto iron on paper. I did a test print of said photos on paper and the photos look great (even for the size they were in on letter size paper). I believe I found a great printer.

For a while, the only printer I would buy for home use was an HP. But when the last cartridge inkjet HP printer I owned went through ink like a drunken sailor and it would not accept aftermarket cartridges, I was done with HP. I then switched to Epson, which I was very happy with for a while. Even though my first Epson printer used cartridges, the ink lasted a long time. But after that printer died, I bought two more Epson printers, both of which went through cartridges. Then when my most recent Epson WF-3820 inkjet printer did a firmware update and refused to recognize my already-installed cartridges, I was done with Epson. Having sworn off HP previously, I was ready to switch to Canon, but their setup seemed very user unfriendly. As a result, I swallowed my pride and went with the HP Smart Tank 5000. which was inexpensive and uses ink bottles. I haven't owned the HP for that long, but I am very happy with it. Setup was a breeze and unlike my last Epson (which would drop the wifi fairly frequently). No such problem with the HP Smart Tank 5000, which also came with more than a year's worth of ink. And the replacement ink bottles are not too expensive either. While the printing speed could be better, that's a small sacrifice to make for good quality prints, reliability, and a long-lasting ink supply. I highly recommend this printer. Hopefully I haven't jinxed myself.

The HP Smart Tank 5000 is a decent printer with some great features. The ink tank system is cost-effective and lasts a long time, making it ideal for frequent printing. The print quality is solid for both documents and photos, and the wireless capabilities are a convenient addition. However, I’ve had some issues when printing long documents, as it occasionally lags or struggles to keep up. The setup process was also a bit more complicated than expected. While it’s not perfect, it’s a good budget-friendly option for light to moderate use.

I love not having to use outrageously priced cartridges. It’s very convenient for me because I don’t have this out all the time. When I need it I pull it out and plug it in. It always reconnects to my wifi and with the app I can scan documents and save files right to my phone which makes it easy to send attachments via email, text, etc. Good price and has all the functions I need. If you need a good printer for basic home use then I’d recommend this one

Excellent printer, but the setup was outrageously difficult. First, I have never bought a printer that required me to install a print head, much less two (one for B&W and the other for color.) Installing the B&W head wasn't too difficult, but the color print head took multiple tries (I was almost ready to send the printer back until I accidentally discovered that the print head had to be tilted and then pushed back into place). Nothing about this in the setup instructions! I installed the program for my Mac, which went fairly smoothly, but required that I reset my Sonoma software to "color" since the default on the HP program was only B&W. The installation on my PC was another story. After multiple attempts to download the software and multiple error messages that said that I should try again later, I finally called HP tech support. It took almost TWO HOURS to get the software loaded, some of it due to the tech's very thick accent that was extremely difficult to understand (I had to ask him multiple times to slow down his speech.) Now that everything is working, I'm happy to say that the printer works fine, but the setup was an extremely frustrating experience. ADDENDUM: After using this printer for about six months, I still would give it three stars, but for another reason. It is prone to jamming and does not allow for very much paper when loading. When it works, it works fine...but it just requires constant loading and jams much too often.

The machine does take it's time, but well worth it. Easy to hookup too. Quality of print is clear and good. Seams to be sturdy. I like it and would buy it again.

When I use the scan feature, it is completely silent! It's not the fastest printer, but adequate for how much I print. I was dubious about the liquid ink, but it was easy and did not leak out. Set up was easy. This is a handsome looking printer. I bought a canon (all black), which is the color I wanted, but I got it home and the copy function did not work so I had to return it. Funny thing is that the copy function of the Canon in the store on the same model did not work either when I tested it. So HP it is! Also, I was fairly certain that I needed a top loader to print my 110-pound card stock, and it works great. I didn't want a top loader, but I had to get one, and now I realize how easy it is to grab a piece of paper out of it when I need one.

We have owned a few printers over the last 30 or so years. Most have been HP and we have always liked them and had good luck with print quality and features. The one sticking point has always been cartridge cost and reliability. And they have never worked well refilling them. Our last printer was a Canon and we will never buy one again. I had been watching the ink tank printers but price was the stumbling block. With the 5000 series the ink tank printers they are finally affordable. This printer makes very nice crisp prints in both letters and pictures. It does scan, the tray is direct feed from the rear top of the printer making it nice if you make water slide decals or anything similar. Super easy to set up and install the software, print heads fill tanks etc. Once on your network it just powers down and waits for the next time you tell it to print. The printer appears to be a winner and now we just have to test it for long term reliability of print heads etc. But as it stands we are impressed and do recommend this if you are tired of the small amounts of ink in cartridges and the high cost.

Bought this because I was done with cartridges that dry up before you can print a dozen pages. We are seniors - and although not total tech idiots, did find it very tedious and challenging to set up and initiate. Definitely not plug and print!!! Once initialization was complete it works well - but be prepared - every person and device in your household that wants to access the printer will need to download the app individually - and will need an “invite” from the initial installer. It’s a bit cumbersome and frustrating that way.

I used to have a cheap inkjet printer but thinking about how much you have to pay for ink replacement, its not that cheap. Plus, that inks get dried and clogged if you dont use it for long. The ink tank printers however is much cost efficient. I love the quality and how easy it is to set up if you have wifi at home. Dont forget to use 2.4 GHz channel when you setup at first.

A little larger than I thought but not a problem. Seems to print well and I like the idea of not having to buy cartridges every couple of months. Price point is very reasonable. The first print of the day is quite the procedure with lots of setting up internally on the machine. The operator doesn't need to do anything, just wait. Inconsequentially the colors on the flat bed top are not the best.

I like HP products. Previously had another HP printer model which uses the standard ink cartridges. Thought I could save money buying this HP Ink Tank model. Setup was relatively easy. Quality of print out is good. It comes with ink bottles which is supposed to last quite long. Everything was working beautifully until around the 2 month mark when I started getting errors on the printer indicating a problem with the color print head (print heads look just like an ink cartridge but they do not have ink inside). I was disappointed to learn that you cannot purchase these print heads on the HP Canada website. They do have print heads for this model available on Amazon but is pretty expensive. About $100 and up for the two print heads required (black printhead and color printhead). I ended up purchasing a single print head from Ali Express for way cheaper. Shipped from China and arrived 3 weeks later. I've had it installed and working properly once again for the last couple weeks, no issues so far.
