This review is for the Chef model UC-PS18SS-36 range hood with LED lighting. The hood was delivered today which means we haven't installed it yet so will have to update this review later on. Packaging was done carefully and the shipper was careful with it as there was no sign of mishandling or damage at all. I am writing the review a little early because when we removed it from the box and unwrapped it today just to look at it, we were both so impressed at how beautiful it is. The finish is very attractive and should make a very nice upgrade to our kitchen. It will replace a 18 year old cheaper model hood that was painted white. The old hood has a 2-speed blower with settings of 100CFM on low, and 210CFM on high. I have never attempted to measure the actual air flow but I would be surprised if it actually moves as much air as it is rated for. Even this new hood moves less than the rated 860CFM, I have no doubt that the air flow will be several times that of the old one, maybe more, and Ill do some testing on that once we get it installed and running. The construction seems high quality and the corners and edges are smooth and finished. The front panel with a clock is another welcome improvement over the old hood. The hood is heavy, feels like 40 or 50 pounds so it will take two people to install it. My vent is through the wall, not overhead, and it comes setup for overhead venting so I'll have to change that, and this hood comes with all of the parts necessary to install it either way, out the top or out the back. Ill update this review with some recommendations once we have installed it and used it a little bit. For appearance, fit and finish It gets 5 stars. 7/5/2019 UPDATE: We celebrated independence day by removing the old range hood and installing the new one ! Overall the process went smoothly. I removed the old vent hood by myself, no problem. The old vent hood was a 42 inch wide model. We replaced it with a 36 inch wide model. When I ordered this hood, it was available in 42 inch but the 42 wide model did not adapt to a rectangular rear discharge like we needed so we went with the 36, and the 36 fits in the old space nicely. The stove is 30 inches wide so we were still good by 6 inches. The power cord comes with ready made plug on the end for those who have a wall socket to plug it in to. Mine is hard-wired so I cut the last 18 or so inches off the cord along with the plug and wired it into my existing wall wiring that the old hood connected to. The hole in the rear of the vent hood where the cord exited did not line up with the hole in the wall where our house wiring stuck out, so I had to widen the hole in the wall by about 6 inches. This allowed me to use a little longer cord length so the power could be tied in while the hood was resting on the cabinet, and have a little bigger hold to tuck the wiring into the wall through as the vent hood was lifted in place. In my case, the 3" x 10" hole in the wall where the old hood was vented was a perfect match the rear vent on the new hood. Before mounting, I lifted the hood into place and with the rear rectangular vent inserted into the matching hold in the wall, I held it firmly in place while my wife got underneath it and marked 4 spots where the mounting screws needed to go. Then I lowered the hood and rested it across the cabinet tops while I pre-drilled the holes for the mounting screws. We placed washers about as big around as a nickle on the screws to provide a larger area for supporting the weight of the hood instead of just the screw head. I have much more confidence in the supporting ability of the screws with the washers than I would have without them. This hood is heavy, some 40 to 50 pounds and needs very solid mounting. Then I lifted the hood into place again while my wife tucked the cord into the wall, and held it tight in the exact position it needed to be in while my wife used a cordless drill to screw the 4 mounting screws with washers in and we were done. I bought a new vent cap to mount on the outside wall where the vent exhaust exits that I will need to install this weekend. I also need to set the clock to the correct time. I read instructions here that someone else posted saying that with the unit turned off, hold the power button in until the hour and minute flash, then with the hood still off, used the up and down fan speed arrows to set the time. Ill give that a try. So far were are very pleased. The fan is a 6 speed, and when I am standing near the hood and the fan is on any speed above 1, I can feel a draft. The only thing I can say is that you should not attempt to mount this hood by yourself. You need two people to do it safely as it is very heavy. The old hood only came out 18 inches from the wall, this cone comes out 22 inches covering a larger area. It is a very nice range hood, we love it. The fan is not whisper quiet, even on speed 1 you can hear it running, but it is not loud. You can stand next to it and have a conversation. Considering that it has 2 powerful squrrel-cage type blowers on it, I think the sound lever is pretty acceptable. 7/8/2019 UPDATE: I installed the exhaust wall cap this past weekend so we are finally finished. The exhaust cap had a damper built in so I removed the damper from the back of the Chef range hood and will use the one in the cap. If the damper in the cap ever gets stuck or hangs up, it's very easy to get to from outside. If I had left the damper at the rear of the range hood and it ever got stuck it would be much more difficult to get to. Also by removing one of the dampers and only having one damper to push open, the air flow should be better even if just a little. After we were done installing the cap, I stood outside close to the vent cap and had my wife run the exhaust fans. Even on either of the lowest 2 speeds, there is a very good flow of air. On speeds 3 or 4, you can feel a huge air stream coming out. On either 5 or 6 speed setting, there is so much air blowing out, the air flow itself, not the motors, makes a roaring sound that reminds me of a hurricane and blasts you with air if you are anywhere close to it. This is one POWERFUL vent hood.

Amazon CustomerReviewed in the United States on November 18, 2022

I had my eye on this pre-pandemic, and I couldn't say No when I saw it on Amazon for the same price AND with $100 off for signing up for the credit card (SO glad I waited for a big purchase to get it. lol). I looked at a ton of hoods, and it seems that there is a huge lack of mid-ranged hoods as far as price vs quality. This is priced wonderfully even if it is not on sale (about $400 usd at the time...minus another 100 for me). It has an amazing, quality, sturdy construction and comes with several options for installation so that you shouldn't need to buy anything additional. The suction power is insane on high levels but is also loud on the higher levels. If I want to talk while cooking or listen to music or something, then I keep the fan on 1 or 2 bars with no issues whatsoever. I absolutely love the removable baffles and grease trap which can all be run in the dishwasher. The grease trap even has a little window to see how much is collecting in it just in case you are super lazy and only want to wash it out every year or less (haha...likely will be me). The lights are bright enough that I use them as ambient kitchen lighting at night since they are such low watts and the bulbs are REPLACEABLE!!! Yeah, I am excited about that since a lot of hoods with LED lights do not have this option. This hoods looks amazing as well. I did install this myself which was quite a task due to the weight and a few of the design choices (like where some screw slots/holes are located). I am not the handiest man, but I can hold my own. You will need at least one other person or maybe a cabinet jack (which I do not have) or both. I had to buy some sheet metal and make my own rectangular 45 degree elbow of duct work (since that is not a piece normally manufactured in the HVAC industry, apparently) with tins snips, sheet metal screws, aluminum tape, and duct tape. The manual and directions are excellent as is the packaging. This is one of my favorite upgrades I have ever done in my house. I will definitely look at Hauslane first for hood replacements in the future, and this model is at the top of my list. Oh, and when you press the control pad for different functions or to turn it on or off....it has the most pleasant chime/sound effect that I could possibly imagine. Seriously. lol I am not being endorsed for this review by anyone in any way. I'm an RN which makes me one of the most trustworthy occupations (if the surveys can be believed, haha), and I believe that if you jive with what I have written here, then you will NOT be disappointed with this hood. Just consider hiring a handyman to install it if you aren't ready for a project. I hope this review is helpful!

It looks good and sturdy, and it moves air faster with minimal noise. Very nice unit. Super cool, that it came with every air type of adapter, so easy to setup. Suction is very good. Very easy to install, way better than my old hood, perfect for type of cooking which uses lots of oil and smoke. Easily changeable lights, we changed from warm to white. Very happy with the purchase

Hi guys. Just a quick note about this product. I am à Général Contractor specialised in reno. I have installed many range hood. This one was for my own new house and I am very happy with it. It is sturdy (heavier gage than most) the fans are very good. A bit noisy but that cannot be avoided with 2 big fans working. The digital display is perfect as well. The only little improvement would be regarding the anchoring to the bottom of the cabinet. Would be great to have long screws with a big Flat head that goes down through the cabinet and secure the fan. To only put 4 half inches screws upsude down does not do it for me. This is the install procédure for cheap Broan fan that are way lighter than this unit. I actually driller 2 more holes on the side and secure additional screws to the cabinet each side as well as the one on top. But performance wise, This is great value.

I looked at and researched hood vents for longer than I care to admit. Home depot, best buy, Brick ect ect. Almost every vent I looked at was flimsy, lightly built and kind of cheap with reviews to match. I really wanted something built in Canada or at the least in the USA. No dealers around this area for the Hauslane products but I did my research and read many many reviews. I am really happy that I did. This is by far the most industrial good looking well made hood that I have viewed at any price point. Even the optional venting systems provided with this hood are built way beyond my best expectations. Solid with an incredible foam rubber gasket attached to them. This thing weights 40 pounds, and might need 2 people to install. It comes with cord that has a plug on it, our old vent was hard wired so we needed to install an outlet in the cupboard above the vent. Our kitchen is set up for direct venting out the back of the hood, Built in 1987 the exhaust to the outside of the house did not fit the supplied vent with the Hauslane. This was not a huge problem as this company provides 3 options for venting and we easily adapted the 3x10 inch top vent to our purpose. Gasket was attached already, installation was complete. Easy to bring to life and program this product is a joy to use. On low settings it is very quiet, on the higher setting it can be heard but is not annoying. You can not move the incredible volume of air these twin fans move with out some sound. The LED lights are perfect, not a harsh light but bright and warm allowing you to see exactly what you need to when using the stove. The touch screen controls are responsive to the lightest touch and are perfect and simple. Do not hesitate to buy this product, if you can afford this price point it will not disappoint you. Hauslane is not messing around with with cheap price point garbage. I only wish I could get all my household needs supplied by this company.

installation is not difficult, but you need two people or a special tool since the hood is a little heavy. works well, but a little noisy.

This range hood is well built and looks great, however, it is a bit difficult to install and will take a bit of time. Before you decide on this one, check your existing set up. I didn't realize this range hood uses a standard outlet plug for power. My old range hood only hooked up via bare wires so I had to install an outlet in the upper cabinet. Second, the screws provided for this range hood were not suitable. They were very long and given where I was installing them into my existing cabinet, it would have gone right through. Luckily the old screws from the old range hood worked fine and I used those instead. The biggest gripe though is the back 2 screw holes. They are behind the fan vents and when you hold up the range hood, you cannot see them at all. You have to be careful and measure exactly before drilling into the cabinet. This took some time. For me, I was lucky enough that I had the stainless-steel version so I could cheat by looking at the reflection on the side of the range hood to see the screw hole and with some finesse, I managed to get it screwed on. For non stainless-steel, it will be lots of aggravation lol. They need to fix the location of the back screws or provide a template. Overall though, it is a good unit, it is pretty quiet even at the highest setting. It is even more quiet than the hood installed by my home builder which was only rated at 180CFM and only had 2 speeds.
