I have been using Midland Weather Alert Radios for at least the last 30 years, never have I once had a problem out of any of them, and I expect the same from this one. I will say the radios are a lot more sophisticated than they used to be, with S.A.M.E Technology. However, this one was the easiest I have ever programmed one, setting up for your county is a breeze and can easily be done from the menu without having to look up your county's code. The reliability of these radios is 2nd to none. This radio will wake you from a deep sleep, or on this model you can adjust the alert volume lower if you are already awake. Crystal clear voice audio even at max volume. Has bright blue background so you can easily read text on the screen. it also has screw holes for wall mounting. This radio picks up great. Would for sure recommend.

First of all, the set up was VERY easy, took about 25 minutes, including getting the "code" for my county. Had an issue with getting through on the NOAA web site, which wasn't connecting. I had to go through a few "hoops" but finally got the information. It gave me 4 frequency options for my county. Input each one until I found the one with the clearest reception. Reception is UNBELIEVABLE!! I took it into my tornado shelter, which is in my garage. It is made of 1/4" plate steel on all 4 sides and the roof. It is tightly bolted to the concrete floor. I closed the door to pretty much "seal" it, turned the radio on for a local forecast, and it didn't miss a beat. I could hear everything just like I could if it was in the backyard. By comparison, my cell phone has NO reception in this same area. I recommend extending the 22" antenna fully up. I found a major difference in the reception with it fully extended, compared to just leaving it down and clamped to the radio itself. I left the factory defaults for the many assorted warnings that it is capable of, even if the vast majority will NEVER be used, (not too many earthquakes in Dallas). In the last 3 months or so, since i got it, has gone off several times so far when we had severe weather/tornado watches. Radio will wake you up. The speaker was more than good enough for the purpose. To be honest, the speaker may be excellent, but the quality of the actual NOAA radio broadcast is "functional", when you hear the message, your aren't listening to music, you just want the facts. The electric cord is long, maybe 6 feet or so, more than long enough for most people. The battery bak-up works, but don't know for how long, the most I have had it disconnected from electricity is about 15 minutes. I like that I can press down a button and get the immediate weather forecast for my area...SWEET! Don't have to go online, just hit the button on the radio, that is next to the bed. Overall, this is a great improvement from the 10 year old unit that it replaced and a price that is much less.

Great little radio that sounds an alarm any time there is a weather warning for your area. We don't keep our cell phones anywhere near our bed so we keep this radio in the spare bedroom and anytime we get a weather warning (not all that often) it sounds an alarm that we can easily hear, check what the alarm is, listen to the weather warning, then decide whether we go back to bed, or stay up and monitor the situation. You can modify what alarms sound. I plan on getting one for each of my kids families.

Simple enough to programme without having to resort to downloading stuff as some require -- just enter your country, state/province and county and it knows what SAME codes to unsquelch the radio for. I'm in a 'fringe' reception area so the fact this has a jack for an external antenna is a real plus. It picked up the weekly test just fine even with the whip antenna so that's good. The reception isn't 'full quieting' so things sound a bit scratchy with the whip, but not bad. I haven't had an actual 'emergency' yet so we'll see how that works and whether or not it really stops all the 'false positives' I was getting with my non-SAME radio. This is a BASIC weatherradio though. No FM/AM/Scanner functions, it does one thing. But it's cheap enough -- and it has battery backup so if the power goes out it continues to work! We shall see how reliable it is and I'll update this if there is some significant flaw that develops, but so far so good. Overall, for US$30 -- it's just fine.

I bought this because we were having multiple Tornado warnings, but it’s also good for flood, wind, snow &ice, whatever national weather conditions are releasing. Also you can program multiple counties.I programmed my daughter, and brother and our house. I ended up buying them radios because this worked so well, I wanted them to have it also not just me calling or texting them warnings. It has a memory every Wednesday (for us) for testing. Then you can program the closest radio station to hear it talk about conditions time and information that is going on surrounding the warnings. It has different level of warnings too.I recommend this for everyone. Packaged and shipped well, Thank you!

i paid for this thinking since it has the S.A.M.E. feature it could be programmed to any country but no just within USA or Canada. Worked fine for a couple seconds with batteries in but had to find an adapter and keep it plugged into the wall; if I didn't have an adapter as it comes with the 2 pronged USA charger. The material feels fairly cheap particularly the charging cord and it feels could snap at any moment; the device itself 1. it reminds me of an early 00s CD player you carry around with you, which isn't bad but it doesn't last with the 3x double AA batteries (i tried a couple different ones, brand new) and so i can't really carry around with me and doesn't pick up any of the stations as I am on the other side of the atlantic so if I decided to go to USA to visit my friends or visit my family in Canada I can't even check for potential storms and so on, as even with the antenna doesn't pick up anything, just static and i can't even program with the feature to the region and place I am in 2.when you turn towards you you can't see anything on the display; it has 2 little collapsible legs so it's at an angle but if for example you tried mounting it to the wall you can't see anything. Can't pick up any stations or program it to where I am unfortunately. Tried to see if i could and reading the instructions and watching videos of the same product so I could have a reason to keep it but unfortunately will have to return it.

Easy to program and operate. Provides timely Environment Canada weather updates for the area where you are sailing, kayaking or canoeing...Check the weather before you go out and you will not be sorry...This radio operates in AC and DC (batteries) current and is small enough to carry in your boat, kayak or canoe to prepare for changing weather conditions if you are already in the water.
