These are good connectors and at first I was not sure about having the insert then sliding the insert into the plug but it is easier. There is a trick to using them. Cut off the cover of your wire and leave about 1 inch to an inch 1-1/2 of the twisted wires exposed. Untwist them and sort them in the order you are going to need them. make sure you have your insert orientated correctly, they have a little fin that sticks up I make sure that that is facing up. Put your first wire in and let it slide through the and stick out about 1/4 inch then hook it over, this will prevent the wire from sliding out. Next stick your next wire in and do the same (hook the wire). Keep doing this until you have all the wires in (Hard part over). Now what I do is slide the insert all the down and you now have about an 3/4 inch of wire sticking out of the insert. I use a scissor and using the insert as a guide I cut the wires. This should leave about 1/16 of inch sticking out in-front of the insert. Carefully slide the insert forward so the wires are now flush with the insert. Stick the insert into the plug and crimp. Once I figured out how to do this I was able to make wires quickly. If I have time I will add photos.

I saw many negative review about these plugs, all of them complain about hard to use, and taking a lot of time to make. I have been doing networking for more than 24 years. I have used different plugs for my jobs, put pass through plugs aside, for last 6-7 years I switched to Monoprice plugs, These are the most easiest plugs I have ever used, almost 0 error. to be honest, at first I had a little bit problem, but when you find the right way, will be no problem at all. I am not sure different color has different quality during time, but in general they are perfect. The only think you need to remember, don't loose the inserters which come with the package, otherwise it is impossible to work with it. I have one full pack without inserters, and I can't use them.

I don't normally leave reviews but the quality and ease of this plug made me leave a 5 star review. I am extremely happy with this design, it is easy to use with 100% success every time, the cables look like factory made. The people who left bad reviews don't know what they are doing because with me I didn't have a single bad connection over the past 4 years and I do this for living. The worst connector is the pass thru because if you crimp it strongly it get squished a little and that will cause bad contact.

I started not to order these due to all the bad reviews. I have 20 years of experience in the IT industry and have made hundreds of Cat5e cables, but this was my first time using Cat6 cable and RJ-45 connectors with inserts. These worked great...those who give bad reviews are using incorrect cable or lack the skills or tools to properly crimp cables. Note these connectors are designed for solid (not stranded) Cat6 (not Cat5e). What's the difference? Cat6 cable has larger, 23AWG wires and the overall diameter of the cable is slighty larger than Cat5e. Cat5e connectors have a solid bar that clamps the cable sheath down whereas these connectors have two spikes that hold the cable on the sides. If you use smaller diameter Cat5e cable, the spikes will not hold the cable sheath firmly. It works great with Cat6. The inserts also have holes designed to accommodate the larger AWG23 wire found in quality Cat6 cable. Don't buy cheap CCA (copper clad aluminum) cable. The contacts are also designed to work with solid cable. If you try to use these on stranded cable, you will likely have intermittent connectivity issues. I used the inexpensive TrendNet Tool, TC-CT68.

I am absolutely baffled by the positive reviews for these connectors, at least on 23g solid copper cat 6 these is no way whatsoever that these are superior to a standard connector, and several ways in which they are FAR worse. - They are SLOW to install - I can strip a jacket, sort and trim the conductors and crimp down a standard connector in around 45 seconds - faster than I can perform the single step of threading 8 individual conductors through the insert on these. - I tried crimping these wth with several different brands of quality crimp tools, and consistently these failed crimp down to reliable mechanical connections even when used with Monoprice's own brand of cable; as a result the jacket is prone to pull back out of the body in real-world use. This was such a consistent problem that I assumed that I HAD to be performing the connection improperly,, however I have verified that I was following the manufacturer's installation instructions the letter. - They do not provide a reliable electrical connection. Around a third of time, on multiple brands of switches, my connections were falling back to 10/100. - The locking tabs are fragile, and prone to failure. I virtually NEVER have any of these last three problems with standard connectors. Bottom line, IMO, is that this is an the idiot's attempt to idiot proof the standard design, and an archetypical example of why "if it ain't broke, you shouldn't fix it."

Very easy to use which is great, the issue is these will not lock into place in the ports allowing them to fall out. Useless!

Initial learning curve to figure out how to properly use the inserts. Since then quick and easy to use. Cables always test perfectly.

These plugs worked well. I didn't have any trouble making cables with them. I liked the separate insert pieces; they made it pretty easy to get the wires in the correct order before putting them into the plug. I used these with Monoprice RJ-45 Color Coded Strain Relief bits and a TRENDnet RJ-11/RJ-45 Crimp/Cut/Strip Tool
