I had owned a previous Amazon Fire tablet, maybe the 7 inch from a few years ago. It just sat in a drawer because it was basically useless, very frustrating to use. It was just way too slow, had poor battery life and just didn't do anything great. I thought I would try again with one of the 2024 models, the Fire HD 8. What an awesome surprise! This new model is actually quite nice, awesome in fact. It's slimmer, has a great screen, all of my apps from my previous model were installed automatically, and the tablet is just super fast compared to before. I can watch videos on it just fine, I don't need it for photos so the 2MB camera is OK. I have the 4GB memory and 64GB storage. It's plenty big enough. I am very happy with this and the price was incredible. Even when it's not on sale it's an excellent buy.

I'm not sure why there are so many tech and gadget reviews that pan the Fire HD Tablet. I already own an 11" iPad Pro and an 11" iPad Air but I wanted something sized like my old iPad Mini that I can use to read, surf and watch movies in bed. I think Apple has priced its Mini out of the "just use it to surf, watch and read" market. I'm certainly not going to use it to edit, write or do any work on, it's too small to do anything effectively, I bought the Fire HD 8 10th Gen 2 years ago and side installed Google Play Store so I can get all my apps that I have on IOS. But the Android OS is too dated and a lot of my apps would no longer work or update. I bought this using the upgrade and trade-in discounts so price was like $50. It does everything I want it to, all the content apps I have on IOS work just as well here. It's bright enough and loud enough for what I want but most importantly it's small and light enough for my needs. I don't really care about the camera, Bluetooth, latest Wifi spec, connectivity with my Apple devices, I just want to read, surf and watch on it and for that it's perfect and the price is practically a steal. I don't have a problem with the ads, just ignore it when not using.

I find myself reaching for this tablet more often than my Galaxy TAB 10 Ultra or even my iPad Pro 11 due to their size and weight. I can just hold it in one hand. Sure, the experience is pretty basic, but that is its charm. At 8" the screen has enough PPI to make video content pretty clear. The size makes it much easier to hold with one hand. By the way, YouTube looks great in the Silk browser in my opinion. I appreciate the 3.5mm jack as well as Bluetooth connectivity. I find it just as useful as a hub for my home and an entertainment portal in limited spaces such as my kitchen counter. The speakers aren’t great, but they’re good enough in a pinch. While I prefer my Kindle PW, the reading experience is not that bad. Honestly, I like it better for color content such as comics and magazines since the colors pop more and frame focus works smoothly. The browsing experience is decent. Keeping in mind that the memory limitations do not allow for many apps and tabs to be opened at the same time, I have had no issues in doing any browsing and even some productivity tasks. When it’s all said and done, I am quite pleased with the overall experience. The tablet may not be as premium, but managing expectations and considering that “better” tablets cost astronomically much more, this is certainly a bargain -especially when it’s on special.

I wanted a 8 inch tablet to replace an Apple Mini iPad that's over 10 years old and was no longer being supported by Apple. I wanted a tablet of about the size of the mini iPad when I saw an announcement for the new Amazon 8" Fire tablet at a price considerably lower that replacing my mini iPad. With the mini iPad could download apps that supported Kindle, Nook and Kobo reading aps and well as other entertainemnt apps like MLB, Prime, Netflix, etc. When I got it Amazon table i went to the Appstore, typed in Barnes and Noble and saw list of apps for downloading B&N books. When I click on the app name listed in the Appstore the app that I clicked on was not there. I tried all the listed apps with Barnes and Noble in the app name. None led me to the Barnes and Noble app. The was very misleading. When I tried searching of Kobo, I got nothing back. I was disappointed that the Amazon Appstore did not have these apps. The Fire tablet is unlike the Apple Mini. With the Apple mini, I was able add Barnes and Noble, Kindle and Kobo apps. I was disappointed that Amazon did not support those apps. If i were looking for the Amazon Fire table to replace a non Amazon table, I would want to make sure the apps on the current table are available, not just listed, in the Amazon Appstore before being the Fire tablet. I read that there was a way to add the Android Playstore to the Fire tablet but some apps downloaded from Playstore may not run on on the Fire tablet as the Amazon OS is not the exactly same as the Android OS. However. the table is a great entertainment tablet. The screen is sharp, very bright and a pleasure to watch streaming shows and movies. The sound is very good. The tablet is very easy to hold. For me it's the prefect size for daily use and traveling. It easily connects to wifi and supports a dual-band 802.11a/b/g/n/ac standards. It also has a 3.5mm jack for connecting listening devices as well as bluetooth for wireless headphone devices. It great for reading Kindle books. It comes with 32GB storage and has an ability to add up to 1TB storage in the micro usb card. You can also free up some of the items stored in internal memory to the usb card. In summary, the new Amazon 8" tablet is great tablet for entertainment and reading Kindle books and has plenty of Appstore apps for playing games, entertainment and other apps. It may not have some apps if you switch from an Android table to the Amazon Fire tablet.
