Really good way to transfer tapes to a digital format. Easy to use. Much cheaper than using conversion services. I had 50 tapes to convert. It would have been between $400-500 to transfer to a digital format. With this and some flash drives, I spent less than $200 and enjoyed watching the videos during the process. I generated over 100 gigabytes of digital files. This product worked great.

After my horrible experience with the clear click 3.0 (should call it clear cr@p) I wanted to try this brand. First the S-video connection is SOLID.Something the clearclick failed miserably at. It would literally fall out of the device making it unusable. I'm using these devices to record straight to MicroSD on my old Sony PD150. PROS OF THIS DEVICE: SOLID CONNECTIONS INTUITIVE LAYOUT LOTS OF CONTROL OVER VIDEO FORMAT AND AUDIO QUALITY CONS: SOFT SCRATCHABLE SCREEN. That's why I'm giving this recorder 4 stars. It excellent everywhere else but the screen. Its literally a soft piece of plastic that you can scratch with your fingernail. I laughed when I peeled the protector off and the thing had light scratches on it. That's the only area this company needs to add more value to their product. Add a proper glass screen. Not this soft screen I can scratch with my fingernail. But for my use its fine. I can live with it for the money I spent. Overall pleased.

The product worked as advertised. I was able to digitize old VHS tapes to a thumb drive without any issues. Product works quite well, and you will save a lot of money by doing this yourself vs. sending old VHS tapes and photographs to a company to digitize for you.

Received this digital converter and it works great, does everything advertised. However, I wanted to pass along some information that I was trying to find out about the converter but no one seemed to know. If you have tons of dvds, vhs, ect and need more storage than a thumb drive provides, I found out that you can plug in an external hard drive and it works great. I purchased a 1 terabyte hard drive and now will be able to put all my videos on one hard drive instead of countless thumb drives. Very happy about that.

The Porta digital converter is fantastic. It easily converts any media that you can connect SVideo or RCA to digital to store on your computer, upload to YouTube, send to friends or family on thumb drive, etc. Plus gets your old family video tapes onto digital media to prevent quality loss that comes from age on magnetic tapes. I have transferred hours of VHS, Super 8 and digital 8 tapes since I received this product two weeks ago. Has been super easy! I was looking at another device by another company on Amazon that cost almost $100 more with the mindset that higher cost must come better quality and features, right? But after reviewing and comparing this device with others, this is the best value and has everything the other guys have - and more! 1080P quality, no size limit on storage device (you need to provide the storage device), supports FAT32, exFAT, NTFS format, has auto time shutoff, super easy to use! The only thing I can say would be an improvement would be have a rechargeable battery - the device must be plugged in to operate. But that is certainly not a major issue. I recommended this product without hesitation!

I bought one of these, thought it was bad and returned it for another. I am connecting my Xbox360 into the Porta and outputting that HDMI to my new Samsung 4K UHD TV. The game console works and I can play games...HOWEVER...when I try to play a DVD movie on the Xbox my TV loses signal from the device and my screen goes blank. This happened on both units...identical problems. My hunch is that these Porta devices are not HDCP 2.2 compliant...and my new 4K TV is HDCP 2.2 compliant on all 4 HDMI ports. This only happens when I play movie DVDs. I have written the company for tech support ([...] , in China) but I don't have much confidence I will get any assistance with this issue. Another possibility is that the unit it doesn't know how to convert Region 1 DVDs...but I doubt this is the issue as HDCP seems more logical. However, I have another RGB converter (from "C&E Component/VGA to HDMI" that has gone bad, no red signal) that is 4 years old which IS allowing DVDs to play to my new 4K TV. And I def know that unit is not HDCP 2.2 compliant...thus I am not too confident in my HDCP analysis. Regardless of the reason, this Porta isn't allowing DVD movies to play. UPDATE 1: sending 2nd Portta back and ordering another converter from C&E...not the identical one mentioned in previous paragraph but just the straight Component to HDMI converter since I don't need VGA this time around. However, this unit is advertised as "HDCP v1.3" which makes me think it may not work like the Portta didn't. If this doesn't work then I will just re-order a new Component/VGA to HDMI again and be done with it. UPDATE 2: I grabbed my older Samsung LCD TV (2007) to test this Portta device. Xbox360 -> Portta -> TV HDMI. Powered up the Xbox, saw the console come on the TV, played a game just fine...put in a movie and the screen went blank. So the same problem is happening on older TVs too and technically it should be an issue with the older TV because the 2007 TV is not going to have the same HDCP OR the same HDMI. And as best I can tell the older TV manual says to use HDMI 1.3 Cable...thus I assume those HDMI ports are v1.3 (there is no other reference to HDCP or HDMI version number in the manual). CONCLUSION : This Portta is def having some kind of HDCP issue. Plays games and the console just fine....but it can't convert DVDs due to what I believe is this HDCP issue. I have now purchased an updated version of the C&E Component to HDMI converter (to replace the aforementioned (Update 1) component/vga one that was going bad) and will post my testing with it here.

When it is able to complete a recording it does a decent job, but 50% of the time the recording will not work! Sometimes locks up a few minutes in, sometimes after 3 hours of recording it locks up and wont save the file. End up having to power the unit down completely, which ruins the save file. Maybe its a firmware fix? Some kind of support would be nic.

Looking at "SPDIF" switches, while actually wanting ADAT support for a mixer, music gear, or a Eurorack synthesizer? This is the one that you want. There are various TOSLINK switches out there, but most of them only mention supporting SPDIF. This one definitely supports full ADAT as well, despite not mentioning it in the product description. For reference, TOSLINK is the cable and connector that carries information as light. SPDIF is one very common audio signal carried over TOSLINK, used in a lot of consumer media equipment. ADAT is another, more specific type of signal. SPDIF carries stereo audio, giving you two channels. ADAT supports up to eight channels, and is often found in music recording studios, mixers, and other music gear. I was looking for a switch to let me connect my Eurorack (Expert Sleepers ES-3 and ES-6 modules) to my mixer (Focusrite Scarlett 18i20) from two different locations in my study. I had tried a few other TOSLINK switches that various forum posts had suggested might work, but when I plugged them in they all failed in various ways. Most typically, they would duplicate one channel's audio across all outputs, and introduce lots of crackles and pops. Not surprising, really, but I had to return a few. I found one review on this product that said it supported ADAT, and decided to give it a try. Arrived this afternoon, and I've just plugged it in and run it for the past ten minutes. Working flawlessly using all 6 output channels simultaneously on my ES-6 going into the Focusrite. I'll be buying another one as soon as I finish this review so that I can have one going into the ES-3, and leaving this one going out of the ES-6. The casing is fairly standard plastic, and it certainly doesn't ooze high build quality. (Not that it's obviously rubbish either, but an aluminium case would have inspired so much more confidence.) It's powered by a mini-USB cable, which is... charmingly retro? I can't speak to longevity, as I've been using it for all of half an hour at this point, but it's worked flawlessly in terms of audio quality -- no signal degradation that I can hear, and not a single crackle, pop, or glitch. There is an IR extender for the IR remote control, so you could certainly hide this away in the rats' nest of cables in your studio or media centre. Alternatively, you can just have it accessible and press the manual switch. As I'm going to have two, I assume that they'll be responding to the same IR frequency and so I can switch both at the same time to get input and output switched when I move my system around. All in all: if you've been desperately hunting for an ADAT switch for your own obscure and complex reasons, I think this is probably going to make you happy. It seems to do the job perfectly, and is cheap enough to take a gamble. Very happy to have found this, and I'll be ordering another one now.
