I bought this ice maker to replace a Frigidaire that died after 2½ years of constant use. I wasn't sure about the size on this Kismile, as my family of 7 loves their ice. The basket and reservoir are smaller, as well as the over-all machine, but I decided to give it a try. Like every other ice maker out there, this machine makes 9 standard-sized bullet ice cubes in about 8 minutes. As for basket capacity, the machine makes roughly 2 pints (4 cups) of ice before tripping the "basket full" sensor. You can push down the ice and get another cycle to completely fill the basket. One complete basket-fill takes about 45 minutes. Some have complained that the ice is wet. Apparently, they don't realize how ice is made in these machines. It is not a freezer. When the water drains, the ice cubes are released and drop into the basket. The machine then acts as a cooler. While others have then dumped the ice into a bag to be kept in the freezer, I prefer to pour the ice into a tray. By the time the basket is full again, the ice in the freezer tray has set. I break it up with an ice pick and transfer to an ice bucket. It's a process, but it works for my large family. As I mentioned, the water reservoir is smaller than the Frigidaire and has to be refilled every other time I empty the bucket. However, I think I like this better. While it is a step that has to be done more often, the smaller tank ensures that the water is constantly fresh and not simply re-cycling the same water all day long. I think this will help in the long run with cleanliness. Speaking of cleaning... The Self-Cleaning feature is pretty cool. Although, I'm not sure exactly how they expect it to "self clean". The function is simply cycling water over and over for half an hour. I guess it's to dislodge any buildup in the hose lines? Now the feature that was the selling point for me was the detachable lid. With the Frigidaire, I found that it was impossible to fully clean the compartment where the ice is made. Being able to remove the entire lid gives my cleaning toothbrush full access to scrub down every area that might tend to get nasty over time. As for noise, I guess that's subjective. To me, it's quieter than the Frigidaire, which could be heard all over the house, like white noise. This machine can only be heard at night when the ice dumps into the bucket. Comparing prices, this machine was not bad, all things considered. I did purchase the 3-year protection plan simply because the Frigidaire lasted 2½ years. (We all know things aren't built to last. They are built to be replaced. I even had a repair guy tell me this.) If this machine lasts that long, I will be happy and get a replacement to boot!

I had a previous ice make for a year that quit working so I contacted customer service and got Marie. She was awesome through the whole process of trying to get me a replacement to getting me a discount on a new one! We ended up ordering the white unit and received it yesterday, so far we love it, I missed my bullet ice, and love the option of 2 different sizes!

The ice maker in my fridge went -- leaks constantly which freezes all the ice into one big sheet. To replace this maker with parts and labor about $300. Bought this little gem and get plenty of bullet ice which we transfer to our freezer using the bucket that went to the old ice maker to store them. Makes plenty of ice and cleans very easily. Makes slight noise but nothing earhshattering, except when the ice falls into the basket -- that can get a bit noisy. We like the large size bullet ice and find it easy to make and store. Only had a little over a week but so far, very satisfied.

I actually have this running right now upstairs making some ice. This thing is whisper quiet.. If it wasn't for the ice dropping in the bucket I would not know it is on. I used to crack pretty much 12 mini trays a day in our house. (not helping it is really hot and dangerously humid where we are right now) This machine makes 2 sizes and we are used to the small ones. All though these are not as small as our mini trays, these are still a close second. The only downside and not much of one.. is that the ice stays wet. So when you put them in your freezer.. Taking out hours later you have huge chunks all stuck together. Which is why there is a small hammer on top of the fridge. But not much you can do about that. This is still a 5 star machine.

Too little ice at one time.

This is my second portable ice maker I've owned. It comes with somewhat easy to follow instructions. After adding water, it was producing ice in about 10 minutes. It does make large or small ice "bullets". Using the large setting, I got about 4 cups of ice in about 45 minutes. This ice maker includes an ice scoop for convenience. The only downside, for me, was the noise. The fan while it's operating was really quite noticable. It was plugged in on my kitchen counter, and we could hear it over the TV in the living room. Our other portable ice maker that we own is much quieter. I did note that this one uses Freon. Our other one doesn't. So, that may be the difference with the operating mechanics, and the difference in decibels while running. If this was quieter, I'd have given it 5 stars.

Play Video 1) Machine is able to do shelf clean: Hold the power for 5 second. The S & L cube size button will be one by one flashing. 2) Good size, this small and enough for family. I keep some ice left in machine before off the machine at night to limit mold growth, then I clean it every morning. 3) The cover of machine openable, which easy to cleaning and accessible to unscrew to make deep cleaning after months of using if machine being dusting in motor.

Bulllet style ice in large size setting. That means like old musket bullets, the center is open. Cubes tend to be a bit wetter than I like as cavity in ice catches left over water and melted liquid while in ice storage tray. Looks very nice on counter and handle is very solid. Current draw is low enough to use in a camper or rv or boat on a converter. Long haul Semi drivers, good for use in your trucks also.
