I am attending a wedding this Fall, and was in need of a new dress. I found this great lacey Vince Camuto dress at Nordstrom Rack for a great price - except it only came in Ivory! I bought RIT Dye (the 'normal' version, not the one for 'synthetic' fabrics) in Hyacinth. This Ivory dress is: 40% nylon, 33% cotton, 27% rayon. The lace outer portion is cotton, and the lining is Nude & made with the synthetic materials. My plan was to snip out the lining so that it did not get dyed, but it is one whole piece that is sewn all over, so it would have been nearly impossible to remove it and reattach it, given that the outer lacey portion is so delicate. So I looked at RIT's instructions and mostly disregarded them. Instead of putting this dress into a pot of boiling water on the stove, I threw it into my washing machine. Instead of adding dish soap, I didn't. I did add salt, but it was Epsom salt. I used the 'hot' wash cycle and poured (about) half of the bottle of RIT into the washer. Once the washer was filled with water, I tossed the whole dress in. I stopped the wash cycle, set a timer for 10 minutes, then started the cycle again so the dress could be swished & swirled around. I stopped the cycle again, this time for about 20 minutes. Then I restarted it, and let it finish. I then washed this 'dry clean only' dress on 'gentle' with Cold water, and hung it to dry. The result is perfect: RIT dyed the outside of the dress, but not the lining. The color is just as I was hoping it would be, too! There is some detailing along the collar that didn't 'take' the dye, but that just makes it look a bit fancier. Photos were taken in my basement with no adjustments/filters.

Rating: ★★★★★ I recently used Rit All-Purpose Liquid Dye in Tan, and I am very pleased with the results. Effectiveness: The dye works great! It provides an even, vibrant color that transformed my fabric beautifully. The tan shade is exactly what I was hoping for, and it looks fantastic on the material I dyed. Ease of Use: The instructions were clear and easy to follow. The dye process was straightforward, and the results were consistent across the entire fabric. Versatility: I appreciate that this dye can be used on a variety of materials, including cotton, linen, silk, wool, nylon, and more. It’s a versatile product that can be used for many different projects. Pros: Vibrant, even color Easy to use with clear instructions Versatile for different fabrics Cons: None that I have experienced Overall, I highly recommend Rit All-Purpose Liquid Dye in Tan for anyone looking to refresh or change the color of their fabrics. It delivers excellent results and is very user-friendly.

I know this product has been around forever , so I purchased because someone got bleach on my LIGHT purple beautiful shabby chic style towel and was livid ! Anyway I didn’t expect this color dye to be such a dark purple, unfortunately it was way too dark but at least the towel looks better without bleach mark . Not sure if I would purchase same brand of fabric dye again though. 4 stars because it worked , but color wise it was just too dark so I will keep and make DIY borax crystals with it …

I read the reviews and knew the color was going to end up more coral or peach. I followed the directions, added salt and dish soap into hot water, soaked for 30 minutes and stirred continuously. I used the entire bottle, because I was going for the darker color. I also used rit colorstay dye fixative. It took a LONG time to rinse to clear. Even after the fixative the color was bleeding. I washed in a laundry bag with an old towel and did not notice any dye transfer to either. I wish the color saturation was a bit better but overall I am happy with how it turned out. Material content is 87% cotton, 15% rayon, 2% elastane, maybe a little vinegar would have helped the saturation with this material blend?

My job requires its employees to wear red tops, and I didn't want to spend a lot of money for a red sweatshirt, so I bought this to dye a heather grey hoodie I already had. Dying the garment was really fun. I followed the directions for the material I had and did the dying in the kitchen sink. It was easy to do, but I would definitely recommend wearing gloves. I used tongs to move the hoodie in the water so it would dye evenly, but you have to rinse the garment in cold water until the water runs clear, and that was too hard to do with the tongs. My hands ended up being red for two days. Oops. The problem that I have is that the dye isn't really 'set'. You don't get dying instructions with the dye, you have to go to RIT's website for instructions. In the "Dye 101" section it makes no mention of future washing instructions. In the "Tips for Successful Dying" section, the NINETEENTH "tip" is: "CARING FOR DYED ITEMS. For the first two or three times, wash your dyed item by itself in cool water with a small amount of non-bleaching detergent. Always wash your dyed clothing with similar colors in cool water with mild detergent. Dry cleaning silks and special fabrics is recommended." That would have been helpful to know - and yes, in retrospect I'm kicking myself, because maybe it's obvious now, but I managed to dye a whole load of colored clothes pink. My khaki pants are a disconcerting shade of salmon now...and the hoodie has faded from red to some very weird color that falls in the red family, but really isn't red at all. :( All that said, I'm considering buying another bottle of red and retrying. First, starting with a light red jacket and using a full bottle might get me a darker, truer red. I'd add some boiling water to my mix and wash it alone forever. But $4 for another bottle of dye is better than $30 for a hoodie that I'd only wear to work.

The colour was finessed as I went along. The longer I simmered the pot the darker it got. Although I had washed the blazer before it still came out a bit splotchy. Not sure I would try it on an expensive piece.
