I lived in an apartments with doors from the 1920s, and one of these keys allowed me to lock the closet when we went out of town. Very handy for a good price.

Key does its job but very thin and feels as if it could break at any time. Would be better if it was made a little thicker. Not comfortable to hold and turn.

Play Video I decided to finally restore the mortise locks on my 100 year home and I am on a quest to find skeleton keys for each door. In my search, I found this very budget conscoius set as well as a pricier key from another store and bought both. This key set has a lot going for it - beautiful and durable brass, it actually works in the lock, and the price can’t be beat for the quality. My only gripe is that the collar is too narrow to feel stable while unlocking. It will slip straight through if the lock is double sided. That being said, I’m sure you would get used to it. I’d recommend this if you are on a budget or don’t really need to have a solid workhorse of a key. If you need to use daily, the other nickel plated one that’s 4 times the price (uniqtique is the store I think) is a solid choice.

I have a 100 year old door that requires an old skeleton key to unlock it. I’ve tried to find old keys just like the one I have and never could. I was glad to find these as they actually work.

Both kinds of keys worked for the locks in the house I'm renting. I will say that I did manage to break one of the keys by trying to turn it really hard, but it's really difficult to do and you have to go out of your way to break it. I broke it when I stuck an Allen key inside of the hole and trying to forcefully turn the key, and I twisted hard enough for it to shear off. There was definitely a big sign telling me that I was going to break it and that's when the hole twisted out of alignment with the key. So if it's starting to get out of alignment, definitely look into fixing the lock before proceeding any further

The key appeared identical to the key that I had ,and was damaged , but it would not work. I needed to alter it for the key to work.

I have a house that was built in 1846, so it has old doors. I bought these and crossed my fingers, and they work just great! The keys themselves could have used more material to make them more heavy, but I pleased with them. They both worked.
