Replaces my original unit, which lasted 9 years. Works great so far. Also comes with plug in power supply and manual.

Have used my first SportDog transmitter for five years and NEVER had a single outage or problem. Then lightning struck a tree right next to the underground cable. The cable went right over a main root. When the lightning struck, it disintegrated about an inch of the cable while apparently sending a pretty large electromagnetic energy pulse down the cable about 1000 ft to literally explode the transmitter. I didn't know this damage occurred until two of the dogs took a trip into a nearby neighborhood. I tested the fence and found it wasn't working. Got the new one in a couple of days later, reinstalled and the dogs are happily contained again.

I really like this product. A clue to installation is that you may have a complete circuit and it not operate. Depending on the size of your area, you may have to connect additional wiring. Make sure your wiring has not only correct continuity, but also proper resistance. If there are too many splices or connections, you may have too much resistance, and the unit will not work correctly. It’s an easy fix. Replace your underground connections with better connections.

So, after a lighting strike, our 2nd transmitter died. It happens. I cant fault SportDog for a transmitter that has to operate after a lightning strike. I just purchased a new transmitter and swiftly began installing the device. The clips to attach the fence wire POPPED OUT. Literally springs out, red toggle out, retaining bar deformed and out of place. Now the wire will not make a solid contact and cant get it working. So, now I have to either take it apart and solder the tabs OR wait another week with our dogs inside so the town doesn't come to pay us another visit. So, if the solder doesn't work, another $130 wasted. Seriously consider when installing and investing in collars. SportDog's quality has dropped to China levels... Below Harbor Freight and into the DollarTree level... EDIT.. after opening it up, I noticed that they put in fuses to protect the board but soldered them to the board so you cant replace. Who does that? Ohh and BTW, 1 star on battery life (no battery). 1 star on water resistant (not near water). 5 star on easy to install because, well 2 wires and a power plug... yeah easy.

This replacement fence box is the same as the original one purchased. It is all you need if your original box goes bad for whatever reason. My original fence box was hit by lightning and this one had us back in business quickly without all the extras the original fence kit has.

First off, this product works great! Unless there's a close lightning strike. Documentation listed "build in lightning protection". Ahhhh, no.. After ours was fried I pried it open and found the board burnt to a crisp. There ARE some soldered fuses, on the power input side. However, there's NOTHING on the fence side which is where the spike came in. TOAST! Did buy a new one (again, works great!) but this time we purchased an external power/fence lightning protector. (Sure, buy this product but ABSOLUTELY buy an external power/fence protector as well!) Want 5 stars, change your marketing.... Would I buy this again? Yes, already did. Would I recommend this to others? I believe I just did, with the important caveat. NOTE: What I liked about this unit was the fence controller but also the rechargeable collar and the optional remote.

We've had a SportDog underground electrical fence in place for over 10 years now. I can rest easy knowing my dogs are trained to stay on our property. We've only had to replace this unit once in 10 years. It has held up very well installed in a barn. Easy to install- attach it to a wall and insert wires.

This looks like it should works fine. The listing makes you think it is just the main unit but it does include the power adapter and instructions like you bought the fence just without the collar or wire.

Purchased to replace one that was destroyed by lightning. Worked great until lightning strike. If you’re in a lightning prone area I would suggest getting lightning protection.
