I have owned a TP-Link Router for years. It still works perfectly. I recently switched to Fiber Optics and decided to upgrade. This is an outstanding router. The setup took about 1 minute after the new gateway was installed by Alta Fiber here in Reading, Ohio. I purposely moved the location of the wall mounted gateway so everything has been completed. This router is extremely fast and can carry up to 90 devices. We don't have that many -BUT- with our tablets, smart phones, laptops, multiple 4K TV's, WiFi audiophile systems, WiFi desktop PC, multiple WiFi Ring security cameras, WiFi stove, WiFi thermostat etc... WOW ! ! zero buffering, huge range, 6 adjustable antennas this router has everything except the third "band". Our fiber optics comes in at just over 600mbps, this router handles it easily without any additional equipment. This is a 2 story home with a basement on a 1/4 acre. No problem! Our neighbors can "see" our router. Driving down the street a couple hundred feet my smart phone can "see" this router. For about $150 - just get this unit! You will be amazed!

When it's connected to devices it's fantastic. The only caveat as a Mac user is every time I turn off my laptop my connection with the Wi-Fi router is "time-out" (required to re-enter password every time I turn my Mac on). While previous WiFi routers have not required that procedure I was willing to let that slide. The only reason I'm not giving it a five star is because connecting to this Wi-Fi router automatically shuts off the "Firewall" on my Mac every time I turn it off the laptop. Which means for safety reasons the Mac won't connect to any routers, or let the user know the firewall has been shut off. The way to solve this is to go to the "settings" icon on the Mac, then the "network" tab, and there you can turn on "Firewall."

After a few years of paying through the nose to my ISP for โwhole-home Wi-Fiโ, I decided it was time to get my own router. This has proven to be a solid option so far. Setup was straightforward and effortless. I just plugged it in, and away it went. Since I have fiber internet, it was a matter of plugging the power in and switching the ethernet cable from my old router to this one. It took about two minutes to power up, and it was ready to go. Currently, I have 39 devices connected to my network in my home (three levels, 2200 sqft). One is hardwired directly to the router, and the rest are wireless. A mixture of cellphones, laptops, tablets, and the majority being smart devices (Echos, bulbs, plugs, etc). All devices (except one, which weโll get to) connected easily and get excellent signal throughout the house with no interruption. I have 1GB fiber internet and get 980 down/920 up on the wired connection to the router, and around 550-600 up/down wirelessly. The wireless difference has been amazing, as my old router was only getting around 200-250 up/down. One of the features I liked about this router was the separate IoT network. This allowed me to keep all of the smart devices grouped together and prevent them from accessing sensitive data. I also set it up for 2.4 GHz only, so the devices would play nice and connect. The Tether app is basic, but helpful, and most of the essential settings can be managed there. Features include quickly turning on/off the IoT and guest networks; checking the status of all connected devices on the network; and managing some security and parental controls. A trial of Security+ is offered, but I did not use that. The basic security includes scanning for threats and device isolation options. Parental controls allow for the creation of different users and the assignment of specific devices to them. Itโs one-touch from there to block user devices from the network. Youโll also be able to see how long the devices are online and what their top-visited websites are. More features, though, are unlocked via subscription. What canโt be managed on the app can be managed on a decent browser interface. There are lots of options to sort through and many have tooltips to help you know what to do. I especially liked the ones that recommended not to mess with them. My only downside to an otherwise great experience with this router is that I had a single device (an old Chromebook) that I could not access the internet through the firewall. The Chromebook thinks there is a login portal (like on public wi-fi) when there isnโt. Some of the solutions I saw online were hard to map with how the settings are laid out in the TP-Link settings. But, I canโt hold my poor tech know-how against the router. Overall, this router has been very reliable and easy to use. It may not be quite as user-friendly as the Eero I previously used, but it is still very accessible and manageable for someone with only a little technical knowledge.
