I have used Turbotax for decades and swear by it. Yes there are other tax programs out there. But all I can say is I have always been surprised and grateful for the ease of doing taxes with this and I used to be in a high income brackets with literally a foot tall stack of records to enter. Easy Peazy with the Premier version when you have things like mutual funds, sold property, investment income and interest. I think it is well worth the extra 20 or 25 bucks compared to the lesser Deluxe version. Importing your investment (stock, mutual find, bank) info just takes a couple clicks and it downloads it and puts everything into the right place so you do NOT have to spend hours entering numbers. So there are no "human errors." I used to employ an excellent accountant who sat there across the desk and asked me the exact same questions Turbo Tax does as it walks you through everything. She would enter numbers into her tax program and then presented me with an accountant bill for $500 afterward. Eventually I realized hey wait a minute, she's just reading questions to me from a Turbo Tax-ish software program on her screen and it's costing me hundreds of dollars every year when I can answer those questions and enter those numbers myself! And it updates for any current tax law changes before you get started. Can't beat Turbo Tax.

I have been using TurboTax for many, many years - at least 20 and probably longer. I use it on a Mac and the only issues I've had are with the need to constantly update the MacOS to get TurboTax to work; in one case I had to upgrade my desktop computer to make TurboTax work, but that was a price I was willing to pay to be able to make the taxes (relatively) simple and quick to do. I like the integration of all the pieces - automatic downloads from investment managers like Fidelity; this eliminates a lot of error-prone data entry. Care must be taken however - if you download two people's data and you share a common brokerage account, make sute you only select an account once when you incorporate it in TurboTax. I'm now firmly "in the eco-system" of TurboTax so I know its foibles and oddities; but if I stand back and evaluate it more objectively, I think the interface, while useable, is a bit clunky. TAB keys should sometimes behave a bit differently as should the RETURN key on the keyboard. Eventually, I hope Intuit rethinks the user interface a bit to make it more modern and graphic. If you own corporate bonds, there is one 'gotcha' I haven't found a work-around for. Bond owners of course have taxable interest to report. They also have the requirement that any premium paid over par to acquire the bond (this is quite frequent) be amortized over the life of the bond. The math for this is quite complicated, but fortunately, at least for Fidelity customers, the amount is calculated for you and included in your year-end report. TurboTax can handle this, but it cannot simultaneously handle any accrued interest paid at the time of purchase; this must be manually entered. Finding a place and a way to do so is tricky in my opinion, and it's such a basic part of bond ownership I can't understand why TurbotTax doesn't make that a stand-alone entry line. I find the help screens and texts of limited usefulness. It may be terminology but I don't seem to find an answer on the first try and frequently wind up scanning the forums for answers, which is risky because people like me are posting their own experiences and opinions on the forums, and you must make absolutely sure you are following the tax law. To be fair, I haven't done my 2024 taxes yet, so my comments are based on my history with TurboTax up to 2023. I will report later if there are new or resolved issues. The download was smooth and worked great; immediately after the download you are directed to go to the TurboTax website and download updates. This, too was seamless. I haven't tried the competitive proucts so my comments relate only to my experience with TurboTax.

The download and install process worked flawlessly on my Windows 11 Lenovo Laptop. The program started correctly, and I have been able to start entry of my tax information. I knocked 1-star of this rating, as I would have preferred the CD install process and not the download version, as it is easier to switch machines with a CD (my opinion.)

This year you cannot get a disc. You need to download the software. Using turbo tax is easy since it keeps last year's information. Since I have the same savings account the bank info comes up. If I didn't receive the bank's form this would be a reminder. I don't know about other tax software but this one is good.

I have used turbo tax for 15 years. They always update any new laws that come out. I enter most everything myself and choose to pick the areas I need to input information. But you can choose guide me and it will ask you all questions to enter your info. It always will get you the most return it is able to get. Well worth the cost versus hiring an accountant for three time the cost. Very easy to use.

For many previous years, we have installed and used Turbo Tax Premier (the CD version). The 2024 software is not available on CD so we bought the downloadable version to use this year. The download performed as advertized. We were able to install the software on a Lenovo desktop running Windows 11 Home and also on a Dell laptop running Windows 11 Pro. No problems in using the 2024 version so far. We will try downloading capitol gains/losses from our brokerage accounts next month.
