This USB-C / Thunderbolt to Ethernet adapter seems to not support CDCE but does work at both 1Gbps and 2.5Gbps once the proper USB Ethernet driver is loaded. In testing it on an ESXi 8 host, it was not discovered until the Fling was installed but after that it has worked perfectly. So if you plan to use it during install make sure the installer has the VIB for the USB Fling added when it was built!

Works well with PCs and Macs, and I’ve used with Windows, MacOS and Debian Linux. Throughput is good and can maintain 2+ gbits/second bidirectional without difficulty. It manages this even with a Mac Pro 2013 trashcan with USB-C passive adapter increasing the speed greatly over the built-in Ethernet. Extra life for old hardware or an extra port for newer hardware.

Best way to get the speed for wired Ethernet out of your 1Gb laptop RJ45 hardware; go USB-C. When you need twice the throughput this works.

With windows 11 was plug and after a min play. I only have 1000 down but was able to pull the full speed through it. By the way for those techs like me it does support vlan tagging. Will work with usb c to usb adapter for laptops that dont support usb c, however spped was about 60 percent slower when plugged into a usb 3 port.

I ordered two of these and tried them both in my laptop's USB 3.2 Gen 2 (USB-C ports), thinking the first must just be defective. Nope, neither transfers at anywhere close to 2.5G. I get about 175MB\s through each adapter, while getting 280MB\s when transferring from one of my other desktops. I tried a different cable, thinking that may be the bottleneck, but I got the same exact speed. Considering neither of them transferred at the advertised speeds, I can confidently say that these are not 2.5G adapters. They're more like 1.5G. Update: I picked up a similar adapter from another brand and had the same exact problem with the transfer rate. After downloading the drivers manually, they work great. So, you may need to do the same for this adapter. I no longer have this one in hand, so I can test it and verify, but after downloading the drivers for my new adapter, the speeds do work at the advertised rates. I raised my rating from one to four stars because odds are this adapter will work at the right speeds if you get the driver manually. You shouldn't have to, but until Microsoft starts providing the correct drivers, I have a feeling end-users will be running into the same problem with most of these types of devices.

It boosted my speed up to 680 mhz which was much better than the 280 mhz I was getting with the WiFi that came with my laptop. For now I am giving it a 5 stars because I think there is a compatibility problem. I have 2gb internet. I will eventually set up some desktop computers which I expect it to elevate the speed to the full 2 gb.

DOA. Tried on an android tablet, phone, 3 different windows computers running windows 11 24h2. Noteworthy i have other usb-c adapters that have no issues. I just needed another one for a dual homed system. I even tried pulling down drivers (uses realtek under the hood). I could only get a self-assigned IP address. As soon as I swapped to a different device, it worked immediately. I'd avoid, even though perhaps I got a bad one. Another noteworthy item is it refused to show my connection at 2.5, only 1, which is why i tried to update drivers. That said its 2025, in most cases things work plug and play for stuff like this.
