After 15 years, my memory foam mattress and its box spring were more than at the end of their lives and needed to be replaced. Buying a mattress is a very personal and expensive decision and with so many mattresses on the market of which most you can't see or tryout physically because they are sold exclusively online, it is very difficult to determine which one is right for you -- and if you have a sleeping partner, it makes it even more difficult to find one that will work for both. My husband has had both a hip replacement and lower back fusion surgeries and needless to say he is very suspicious of the mattress-in-a-box concept and was skeptical of all of the best options I found online. To complicate matters, his back situation makes it difficult for him to go to a local mattress store to try out options there, so it took us FOREVER to come to an agreement about what mattress to buy and where. I gave up after a month of off-and-on searching but then it happened -- a particularly sleepless night on our old mattress with extreme back pain in the morning. That was the final straw. That nite forced us to get it in gear and make a final decision. We decided to try Zinus for three reasons: 1) the reviews online overall were great; 2) the company sold a sturdy platform foundation we could purchase separately so no box spring was needed; and, 3) the price for the mattress was incredibly reasonable for the options and features included. I have to say that we were still pretty skeptical about ordering a mattress online but figured if it turned out to be a big disappointment, we weren't out that much cash (and neither of us could fathom how we'd ever get a big queen-sized mattress back into a small box for a return!) Our Zinus hybrid mattress took about a week to get here, but came as advertised. I will say that the outer box was really beat up and broken, but no damage to the packaging around the mattress itself, thank goodness! I set up the SmartBase foundation unit myself (really easy and fast) and managed to get the mattress onto the base with a little maneuvering (it was pretty heavy - you should have seen me struggling to get it up the stairs to the bedroom!) I unpacked it according to the directions and almost immediately it opened up to the 14" height. Since the initial "roll out" I have not seen/felt any dips or collapsed spots as another reviewer experienced. All of this is very good and well but the real test is the sleep test. I NEVER look forward to having a new mattress because it always takes me at least a week of sleepless nights to break in one. In fact, I had readied the guest bedroom in anticipation of having to transfer over in case I found myself tossing and turning a night or two while getting use to the new Zinus. You know all of those reviews you've read about people claiming to wake up from the best sleep they've ever had or with no back pain whatsoever? Well, that has never been my experience, at least not for the first week of the breaking-in stage. Until now. Wow. This bed is fantastic! I am a back sleeper generally. This mattress provides complete support of my lower back as well as all other areas. No transfer of motion, no squeaks, and very easy to change positions, unlike some memory foam mattresses where you sink in and good luck getting out of the indentation you've made. The first night and every night has been a sound sleep experience for me. And yes, for the first time in forever, I get up and out with no back pain. (Thought I would never say that!) My husband with all of his back issues has said that his sleep has improved and while he will likely never be pain free in the morning, this mattress has drastically improved his sleep experience. I was concerned about some of the reviews stating that this particular Zinus mattress model we had ordered was too firm. However, I'm finding it to be just the right amount of support and comfort. I will update my review if I'm finding that the mattress is not performing as expected, but so far I am satisfied completely with my purchase. This experience has not taken the anxiety out of purchasing a mattress online for me totally, but I feel fortunate this purchase worked out well.

I've only slept on this mattress for two nights and I'm already in love with it. I have bad lower back pain from arthritis and degenerative disc disease so I need a fairly firm mattress to support my back. I originally purchased a Saatva mattress (for $1900!) but found it to feel a bit lumpy and it began to sink in the middle after only a few months. My sister has had this mattress for 2.5 years and still loves it so I figured I'd give it a shot. At first I was worried that it would be too soft, as the foam feels very cushy to my hand. As soon as I laid on it I knew I was wrong - it's firm enough to support my back but the foam is comfortable to sleep on. I don't get any pressure on my hips or shoulders when I lay down, but I also don't sink into the mattress. I woke up after the first night with barely any back pain, it felt like a miracle. I do recommend making sure you get the right support for the mattress - I added the Zinus slats on top of my box spring to be sure the foam hybrid is properly supported. I only kept the box spring to keep my mattress from being too low. Having said that, the mattress is THICK and I kind of struggle to get up on the bed with my full-sized box spring! If you want some height above your bedframe, you'd really only need to get one of those modern more thin box springs to add a few inches. A really solid surface for the mattress is the most important thing so the foam doesn't sag. I know some people have referenced the smell of a foam mattress - I opened the mattress and let it lay flat (without the plastic) for 2 days before I slept on it so that it could fully inflate and any odor could dissipate. I haven't noticed any smell since sleeping on it. I'll try to remember to update in a few months, but so far I am in love with this mattress and strongly recommend it, especially for anyone struggling with back pain. You can't beat the price and the quality.

I LOVE this mattress. My partner and I have been using the king size for a month now so I figured it was time to review! I tried to be as detailed as possible but I did put headings to make this a bit easier to read. Item Purchased: Brand: Zinus Size: King Height: 10” Type: Hybrid (memory foam and pocket coil springs) Special feature: Green tea cooling gel Who’s Using the Product? -Me (a plus-sized woman with chronic pain in her mid-thirties) -My fiancé (a slim man in good health in his mid-thirties) Price & Value: Extraordinary. The value for the money here is incredible. I’ve used mattresses that are easily quadruple the price that I could barely use - I presumed it was my chronic pain but nope, they were just bad mattresses. We’ll be replacing our spare bed with a Zinus mattress soon because they’re so good. Delivery, Packaging, and Setup: The mattress arrived in an impressively compact box that was relatively heavy but still easy enough to manage. If you have to go up a lot of stairs, it might be a good idea to have two people to carry it, but I was able to wrangle it myself. The box was easy to open and the mattress unrolled nicely on its own. There was no off-gassing or unpleasant smell for the 72 hours we left the mattress out to finish expanding, which was a pleasant surprise - I’m very sensitive to those smells and had planned on leaving the house with windows open but I could be in the same room with no issues. The mattress was mostly done expanding in under 24 hours, but since we had the space we figured we’d leave the mattress out for the full 72 hours. It did firm up a bit more during that time. Using the Mattress: This mattress was a dream from the first night. It doesn’t need any breaking-in period, as it arrives already in the perfect condition: soft enough to be comfortable, but firm enough to be supportive. I am a plus-sized person with chronic pain, and this mattress gave me the first pain-free sleep I’ve had in years. What really made a difference for me is that the support spreads out evenly along my body. Previous mattresses would cause pain because I’d only get support on a few contact points (hips, shoulders, knees) and wake up in pain from the intense pressure. But with this Zinus mattress, I have zero pain from those contact points, and also don’t have to spend a ton of time setting up special support pillows - the mattress just somehow supports my body in the way I need it to. My fiancé, who is of average weight and experiences very occasional mild neck and back pain, noted immediately that he was also much more comfortable with this mattress. He previously couldn’t sleep longer than about 6-7 hours without being stiff and sore all over when he got up (which he had just chalked up to getting older), but on this new mattress, he can sleep 8+ hours with no pain at all in the morning. The quality and comfort this mattress provides is exceptional - the fact that one mattress somehow fulfills the comfort and support needs for two people with very different body types is some kind of mattress miracle! Hybrid Structure (Memory Foam + Pocket Coils): The hybrid structure is probably what makes this mattress such a good fit for me and my fiancé. Memory foam is great but can often be too hard or too soft, and pocket coils can put pressure in the wrong places. When combined, though, the memory foam and pocket coils are perfect. Highly recommend a hybrid mattress! “Cooling Gel” Feature: We’ve been using the mattress without a cover to see if the cooling gel made a difference, and it’s hard to say if it has or not. I’m a very hot sleeper and prone to night sweats, and while I’ve been cooler at night lately, this coincides with me being able to make the bedroom cooler in general (as temps outside drop and I can open windows, etc.) I can say it isn’t making me any hotter than any other mattress, though! And the cooling gel may be helping (I suspect it is a little bit) but it’s not a miracle cure for hot sleepers. (Now that we’ve trialed the cooling gel featured we’ll be placing a cover over the mattress now - I will update if that changes anything!) Longevity: As it’s only been a month, I can’t speak to the longevity of the mattress, but I will update as time goes on! Negatives: None that I can really think of! I do worry that maybe the mattress will wear out sooner than others, especially because I’m a bigger person, but I have no real reason to think that it will. Overall Impression: This mattress is fantastic. If you’re on the fence, *buy this mattress*. The price and ease of return is what made me finally purchase and I’m so glad I did. I would happily purchase again (and plan to do so for our spare bedroom!).!

I read review, after review trying to decide on a new mattress and after settling on the Zinus 12inch gel infused memory foam hybrid. The gel infusion promotes a cooler sleep (for those like myself that become furnaces at night), and the material that wicks moisture to pull away humidity or sweat if you do happen to get to warm so you don’t wake up drenched. So far, and it’s been a humid hell’s front porch here in July.. I’ve never woken up too warm. I also loved the hybrid features of the memory foam with the iCoil pocketed coils which give the flexibility to accommodate both side and back sleepers. I was pretty impressed with what I got. Everywhere I turned, I saw warnings that even after the 24-72 hours of letting it rest and ventilate that there would still be a chemical smell and it doesn’t fully decompress to inflate to its full 12 inch form as advertised, but I tell ya.. that was SO NOT my experience. Delivery: so caught the tail end of the Prime Day deals when I purchased this mattress and the 18 inch smart frame. All were expected to arrive the Monday and I was thrilled so see everything had been delivered to my door step Friday morning which worked perfectly for me!!! First of all, the compact box is heavier than you’d expect so if your bedrooms are not on the main floor where it’s delivered, plan to have a helping hand so that you’re not straining yourself. There is a very large mattress compressed into a tiny little box - keep that in mind! lol Unpacking it was super easy. Cut the tape, completely unfold/rip open the box, it’s packed tight, sliding it out wasn’t so easy for me. Use scissors to cut the compacted plastic cylinder not a knife of box cutters to prevent damage to the mattress, and pick an open place to up pack it because once you free the beast of its chains, it WILL start to unfurl quickly. The mattress itself is also in a vacuumed bag, so you’ll need to carefully cut that off as well for the decompression process to start. I don’t know if it was the heat in my area, or what.. But within an hour that mattress was at full height - I know.. I measured!! Lol The chemical/heated plastic scent (which I’d assume is from its packing and shipping process, dissipated completely after a couple hours of it sitting in the bedroom with the window open and fan on. I spritzed it with some fabric refresher anyway right before I made the bed as an added scent booster. The sleep.. True to reviews I’ve read.. It is firmer than you’d expect from a memory foam. So if you’re not one who likes how soft memory foam is, this may be a perfect alternative. It’s firm enough to make adjusting and moving easy, soft enough to cradle you lightly once you’re in position. It’s silent and you really don’t feel motion transfer very much, if at all. I have my boyfriend and the dog in bed with me most nights and if it weren’t for the dog deciding to lay on me or blankets, I wouldn’t even know he got in bed us or either of them move. Overall a great price for a great product. I will definitely buy from Zinus again. Speedy delivery, great overall product. I would recommend this to anyone who is in need of a new bed but doesn’t want to break the bank! Thank you Zinus!!!!

The design of this bed makes it's surface quite firm, compared to a bed that use individual coils. My previous bed had individual coils and was made in China. The fabric on this one seems to be of a lower quality than the one made in China some five years ago.

Interesting mattress, I have no more pain in my hip or shoulders (200lb side sleeper) compared to my old zinus green tea memory foam mattress but I wouldn't consider this mattress more comfortable than my old one. It's definitely more supportive. The build quality seems good and so does the support. Maybe it comes down to what I need instead of what I want but I don't recommend this for lighter weight people as my wife complains it's far too stiff and hard. Others have mentioned they can feel the pocket coils but I personally do not and neither does my wife. YMMV. For the price we paid I recommend it however if it increases over 419 I would personally look else where.

My wife is very happy with this mattress. Not too hard, not too soft, just right. This appears very well made and its comfortable to sleep on. Great mattress for a great price.
